Can Diamond animals run away/dissappear?
I know that Diamond animals are supposed to be more careful. but if i find a track that belongs to a Diamond animal - Will it simply run away as long as i track it or can it also despawn after a certain time or range (like when i tracked it for long gamehours without shooting or catching up or something like that)

The only way a Diamond will disappear from your map is if you kill it.

yes, I have had tracks end for many animals. I think it is more time related than distance.

Thanks!

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like higher level animals are more likely to leave intermittent tracks, or stop leaving them at some point, compared to lower level animals.

This has neither been confirmed nor denied, but apparently there is a "natural death" algorithm built into the game. As a result, any animal (including a "diamond") could eventually "die of natural causes" and de-spawn. True or not, better not procrastinate too much going after your "diamond". And while we are at it, if you know you messed up the shot, simply don't harvest the "diamond". Re-start the game. In most cases it will be safe and sound waiting for you close to the original location. Happy hunting.

First I have ever heard this theory.

I thought that in a semi-recent update they also changed the "don't harvest a botched Diamond shot" behavior/loophole?

Would be great if someone could confirm. Worked for me so far...

That is a very interesting read.
Makes me feel better about not being a diamond hunter (hung up on diamonds) too. I just hunt and kill what looks good to me. If I ever stumble on another diamond (I have one in over 1200 hours of play). Then I'll grin like a bear eating honey.

And thats how you not hunt diamonds....
GL with that on medved or hirshfelden once he noticed you he on edge
and everytime you think you came close he bolts away to the thick brush.
To get diamonds on a "regular "basis is get to lvl 60 and buy all your gear.
than when you hit lvl 60 you start grind xp for setting up your maps...

with tents tripods and treestands. (around lakes and hot spots)
than you start in the morning and than you just tent fast travel too all lakes at diffrent times.
and get into the tripod look around the lake and check for a diamond (or unlock a drinking or rest zone where in the future a diamond can spawn)

And than you will get diamonds...

Running around on your map as lvl 20 or what ever trying to find a diamond is almost impossible. most diamonds i got didnt noticed me.
the diamonds that did noticed me runned away and its better to remember the place and time and try it another day.
HAd it with a diamond cape Buffalo.... he noticed me runned away in the thick brush...
After 40 min of Fing around i gave up.
2 RL days later i came back and who was there...the diamond cape buffalo and this time he didnt see me ..had anough time to take a shot and bagged him.

And yeah Flinter,DD33 and Zaggi DK running around on MP maps...but those guys know where a animal likely will go due too 4 years xp in COTW and 6 in the hunter classic.
And there single player maps are also fully loaded with tents and tripods
else it will take hours for 20 min of you tube content,

Also i saw 1 You tuber (wont tell his name but its a big one) on a MP map he was afk and 4 others where searching for quality animals on the map so he can shoot them on his stream wen it started and i got kicked out becuase i did not want to search animals for him.

Actually I was much more interested in the game mechanic itself than the actual hunting for diamond animals, so i really don´t care about all the youtube stuff of people shooting diamonds. I asked for diamond animals behaviour because trivial or easy animals will more certainly be shot before they have a chance to outrun you because they simply will not flee as far enough away before returning to their normal behaviour. There are several very interesting interactions of mechanics, while some seem very stupid (I had a boar Track that consisted of exactly two footprints and one dropping - they spawned while I was looking at the spot - there was never a boar) Since I started this post i have realised most of these strange behaviours occur with mission scripted animals or the way you enter the game/certain areas(fasttraveletc.). And sometimes the observations of other players help understanding such things.

if you lose or cant find a diamond just go back similar time location and you should catch a glimpse of it again. this is also why you want the need zones so you know where it goes.
