When you see the dog go into "critical Position" there is an animal that you are getting ready to spook.
BTW your dog have 6th sense - this perk only boost that ability
I choose Blood Track trait because without 6th sense perk your dog has very big chance to activate anyway - so its useless perk i think.
I haven't been able to test without the trait. You may be right. With the trait critical position is 100% on the last spotted animal if it is within 100m, and the dog is in idle. It is also 100% if it is tracking. Critical position is triggered when the last spotted animal goes to 'alert' state.
If it is always 100% in those conditions on the base dog, then yes, the trait is useless and go go for the other one. However, the other trait isn't really useful either. The extra range is meh and only helpful on long range shooting and you can't remember within 50m of where you shot the animal.
It's super easy to test. Load in to a hunt and NEVER spot/highlight an animal. Find a whole herd of whitetail. Slowly approach them so they will go through the stages to alert with the dog in idle. Critical Position will not trigger.
If it does then it is a very low chance. 1% or so. On last spotted animal it is 100%.
I've tried to reproduce a critical position trigger on non-spotted animals. I can't do it. I've had the dog trigger on an animal I thought I had not spotted before, but it turns out it was the same whitetail doe I spotted 10 minutes previous.
I will admit it may happen, but it has to be so low of a chance that it is worthless without the spot.
Always a chance my dog is bugged too =)
But only when you tagged an animal with E?
