Help with hunting a legendary black bear
So, I saw this guy moving past me while I was out for whitetail at Laykon. I tracked and followed him for 2 hours. When he completed a circle and his tracks overlapped with the previous one I lost him.
Now I know he is on my map and not gonna vanish til I shoot him. But how do you hunt such an animal? Following wont work as he will run away endlessly and I will never catch up to get a good diamond shot. So ... what else? Do legendary animals travel the same route every day? Do they stay near their zone or do they move all over the map crossing multiple zones? Are they attached to certain need zones and visit them again every day? Not sure how to catch this guy instead of hoping to run into him randomly sometime in the future ...

that is Mr. Black
he is part of a mission and you can't ( shouldn't ) kill him, 1st you need to take a pic of him ( to work you must be under 40 mt apart ) and later another mission will appear and this time instead of take the pic you finally can ( should ) kill him :steamhappy:

In my experience that particular animal will stay in the same area. I would scout the area thoroughly looking for any bear need zones. Once the need zone is found I would hunt at the time specified by the need zone I had found. I also set up tents around 300 or more yards from the need zone on the east and west sides of it so I always have a starting point where the wind is in my face. I set my time AFTER I fast travel to the tent I will be using because fast traveling to a tent spooks any nearby animals.
While hunting I stay crouched and use my binoculars constantly. I find many animals through the trees this way. Also, with bears you can use the "distressed fawn" caller to bring them in. Being quiet and barely visible helps a lot.

I've harvested diamond Whitetails, Blacktails, Elk, Black Bears, Mouflon sheep, Ibex, Lesser Kudu and both Cape and Water Buffalo by going back the next 1-3 days at about the same time as I'd first spotted them. Even those I'd spooked. I do not follow a spooked animals tracks. As you've discovered, it's largely a waste of time. Instead I backtrack those he made entering into the area before he got spooked. This tells me the direction he came from and what path he followed getting into the area. Then I set up an ambush. In the last week I've harvested 2 diamond Blacktail deer and 1 diamond Black Bear using this routine. So this isn't ancient history. Hope this answers your questions. Happy Hunting!

animals in this game, even diamonds will often double back on their track. if you're being quiet while you're tracking instead of just running behind them constantly spooking them, you can often get a shot at them if you're willing to follow them around for an hour or two.

other than that, camping the nearest drink or food zone is probably your best bet
