I've never shot a diamond animal
I have shot one but it was the main quest tower mission so i don't count that one. I've shot plenty of gold animals but never a diamond. Every time i look at requirements for a diamond on a kill of a gold animal the read out will say I'm 1 or 2 points short of a diamond kill. I have about 260 hrs of game play. I've read there are higher classes as well but gold or lower is all I've shot. Why would this be ? My understanding of the game is that gold animals should turn to diamond animal when they re-spawn. Do other people have this problem ? Oh, and these are well placed vital shots in the organs with no more than 2 hits with all boxes checked green.

Its not a guarantee that gold animals turn into diamonds. Im pretty sure the probability is fairly low.
You have just been a bit unlucky.

Not sure what you mean by "higher classes". Highest rating is diamond.

First things first the gold animal turn into diamonds thing is a theory from experienced players second thing it may come a bit smaller or a bit bigger(according to the theory) and go everywhere on your map who know a diamond might hiding in the corner the best way to see what animals are in the area is to go to the nearest water source wait a few minutes and see what shows up and diamonds are rare the respawn are completely random if ur lucky it could be a few kills before dimonds or 100 or a 1000 it's completely random if you can't get one to spawn in try hunting hotspots on multiplayer the host my have a diamond/s in his spawn and if you want easy diamonds hunt any of the ibex now the ibex are not bugged it's just that the whole population Is concentrated in one spot (the respective hills)and fewer water sources means all of the population is only at a few lakes making it easier to see your full spawn

In my opinion this is a game, where success doesn´t come around all too fast. It just takes some time, until u fully understand the mechanics of how to farm diamonds. It´s a little bit embarrassing, but it took me 400 hours for my first diamond, than I got better - now I have 70 Diamonds.
The most important thing is to controll the drinking zones of each species - there you shoot all males, preferably the high rated ones..diamonds should come then from alone.

Diamonds spawn randomly. It's not based upon how long you play, what level of animal you kill or how many. The only guarantees we have are that replacement animals for those we kill will be of the same gender and species. That's it.

My first Diamond was a level 5 canadian-goose in hirschfelden. Had to shoot it right out of the air as it tried to get away because it spotted me during landing. The good thing with geese is you can spot them while they are approaching and already pick the one you want and then train your gun on it - even when they spot you they may be near enough to get of 2-3 shots with birdshaot ammo so no worries about hitting the right spot as long as you have the right ammo.

My mistake on a higher level. I was looking at a Fandom post on ratings for difficulty above 'very hard':
- Mythical
- Legendary
- Fabled (only Great Ones)
I seen one deer labelled as "Mythical" but i couldn't catch up to it. Even with it walking I could not catch up to it. To me it was like play chess...for when i would move to cut it off...it would counter my move. It kept changing direction too which made it harder yet to stalk. The wind was always in my favor following it but it didn't matter. Would that have been a diamond ?

I have not shot a diamond, but the hunter profile says I have, but steam awards says I have not. ROFLOL

Diamonds are very, very scarce. Usually no more than about a handful on any reserve. There's a very good chance for some species to have no diamonds at all on your reserve. From my experience, you have to kill about 250 male animals on average to get one to respawn.

Unless you're actively looking for them all the time, the chances of killing diamonds are low. Know the max weight/level for every species on the reserve you're hunting. Make sure to check all tracks you come across for potential diamonds and then hunt them hard once you've located one. Don't immediately shoot the first animal you see. Check around the immediate area to make sure there isn't another better one nearby before you shoot.

Diamonds sometimes hide in the brush a little ways away from the other animals, arrive at need zones later and stay for shorter periods of time, or stay tucked in the middle of herds where it's harder to identify them and get a shot on them. They spook from a longer distance away, and tend to flee and not come back once you've spooked them. They're not as responsive to callers, and sometimes spook when you try to call them. They do also absolutely work to stay downwind of you if you're trying to track them.

It took me over 300 hours to get my first diamond, but I've gotten plenty since. Looking for them is a skill you have to work at.

I wasn't looking for a diamond at the time. I had just unlocked the red deer caller after leveling up.

Never expected it, but wound up with a diamond [ # 9 Legendary ] popping out of nowhere. This was with slightly under 200 hours.

Another time a # 8 Mythical was transiting an area I selected.

The diamond was with a herd & the mythical was just with one other buck.

Both were random.

Its all rng for the spawn and practice, if you can 100% quick kill a very rare spawn.

I started a new character not long ago and first black buck I shot with the dlc M1 was a Diamond. That character had 5mins of played time. Yet my first character when I got the game was about 300 hours in before it got its first legit diamond.

What might have happened was that you shot a diamond but didnt meet all of the trophy scores to make it a diamond. Maybe you shot it in the intestines or something. I've definitely botched a few shots myself and lost a lot of gold trophies

It's a lottery. In my case, none seen for several hundred hours, then I tripped over 2 in fifteen minutes on Parque.

This can´t work, as Blackbuck is Class 3 and M1 4-8 ....
