Anyone else disappointed with Yukon Valley's wolf encounters?
I basicly bought the dlc mainly because the concept of hunting and being hunted by wolves intrigued me but so far I havent had a single encounter with them that would have lived up to my expectations.

They are far less agressive than some other animals I've hunted before like the bisons for example and their AI is really dumb too. I almost always spot their packs from around 150m or further away and shooting at them from such distances completely breaks their AI. In such cases they dont attack or flee, instead they just stand around or run in circles, i can even walk up to them to a distance within 25m and they do not care what so ever. I've probably killed more than 50 wolves at this point and the totalnumber of occasions when I was attacked by them is 2. As if that wasnt lame enough, their fighting tactics also make them not much more of a threat than a nuisence. Sure, slowly encircleing your prey works when you have the element of suprise and outnumber your target severely but this hasnt happened to me yet. They jist start awkwardly walking up to me really slowly and when I start shooting at them they just ignore it completely. They dont get scared, they dont flee or get more aggressive, they just take it without a word.

Dont know about you but if this is the general wolf hunting experience that Yukon has to offer, then I am disappointed.

Maybe you're expecting something that isn't realistic?

MYTH: Wolves are a deadly menace to humans.

FACT: In North America, there have been six documented unprovoked attacks causing injury, and 21 believed to be related to wolves which had been fed by humans, in over a century. One attack attributed to wolves was fatal – though there is still some debate regarding the actual cause of death, some believe the wolves scavenged – that attack is one of the 21 which involved human-fed wolves. Domestic dogs kill more people per year than wolves.

Recently I had the experience for the first time (after several dozen hours on Cuatro Colinas) that a growling pack of wolves surrounded me and threatened me. I lay in wait for red deer, not knowing that there was a wolf resting area near me. I was able to shoot 4 of them with my bow before the rest cleared up. That was a really nice situation, but nowhere near as dangerous as I had always thought. I guess I shouldn't have shot them so quickly to provoke an attack.

I love hunting wolves. I hate that the wolves freeze. A sure fire way of making them go aggressive would be a nice compromise.

No hunter in their right mind goes into the woods hoping to be attacked today. If the wolves never attacked it would be fine by me.

One thing I know for sure. If someone was surrounded by wolves and the intention of the wolves was to kill them. They'd be real lucky to kill just one of them. They would move so fast you wouldn't believe it. They have no problem taking out a full grown bull elk/moose

I have noticed the wolves in Cuatro seem to be more aggressive than Yukon.

And there does seem to be encounters in both reserves that are different according to circumstances.

Sometimes I think it has to do with the AI pathways where there is a leader programmed to follow the AI, and all others in that clan just follow the leader. So if that leader is glitched they all glitch. Or sometimes the establishing of a new leader upon the original leaders harvest does not go efficiently. Or maybe in between kill and harvest there is a limbo chaos.

In reality sure, but this is a game. Actions have no consequences here, it's why you are allowed to kill the entire population of the reserve and no one cares at all or on the flip side it's why you can literally die and and just respawn like nothing has even happened.

Therefor I dont see the issue with wanting to be attacked.

Some of us like to keep it as real as possible. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you have to. I have more fun making the hunt as hard as possible instead of as easy.

You're free to do as you please but try to understand if someone else thinks different. Personally, easy bores me.

The aggression level of a pack can be determined by the level of the alpha and the size of the pack. A large pack with a high-level alpha is much more likely to be aggressive than a smaller pack with a lower-level alpha.

Then the wolves should run away from you 99.9% of the time. I have real-life experience with wolves (Canis lupus and Canis lupus baileyi), and they will do everything possible to avoid any kind of human contact (unless they've been acclimated to humans by morons who feed them). They do not attack unless absolutely cornered, sick, or injured; and since they run at speeds over 35 mph, if you get close to them, you are far, far more likely to see a gray-brown streak heading away from you than a growling wolf closing in.

If easy bores you, and you want realism, you should ask the devs to make wolves much more rare with much better senses so that you almost never see them rather than making them more likely to attack.

I said everything you said in another thread. Yes, that's how wolves and black bears act.

This game has done quite a bit to make it more exciting for those who love to shoot everything. That's fine but those of us who want more realistic hunting should have that option too. All I can do is turn off all the aids and make the best of it. I'm still having fun.

On first release, the wolves were like maniacal zombies...it turned playing in wolf territory into COD mode.

Lol, remember that first EW stream where Zaggi was invited and they met their first wolf pack?
