Opinions On The New Map Being Mexico
I'm personally quite excited for the first true desert map in the game with cacti and the like, plus Mexico has some pretty unique species that wouldn't make the map entirely copy paste.

Is my opinion shared or is everyone largely disappointed or uninterested?

Personally, I hate the desert. I'll be sticking to the mountains.
Hope, there is still plenty of bush and wood, where the animals can hide, otherwise it´s gonna be a shooting gallery and noob map. But I will give it a try anyways - in half a year, when the map, missions and achievements are bug-free.

Yeah, I'm most glad they got the environment right as opposed to being tricked by the old mantra of "deserts are sand and absolutely nothing else." As far as a noob shooting gallery map goes that's why i'm apprehensive about another Africa map, especially one with elephants, as it will just be a shooting gallery with no real challenge in terms of hunting. Waiting for bug fixes is also a good idea, although it is also entirely possible (albeit unlikely) that it will release with little to no bugs.

I do not know yet. So far it was just too little what you could see for me to form an opinion about it. But somehow I would have been more pleased about an announcement about a Central Asia or Australia map.
We'll need to see what species are there going to be. I know - besides the already confirmed whitetail - coyote, mule deer, puma, maybe others already existing in other maps make sense. However, what is going to make this map distinguish from the other, already in game, three North American maps other than the desert terrain? If this map doesn't have at least four new species (and none birds or rabbits!!), yeah, it would be a meh, wait for a sale case for me.

Yeah, Central Asia in Kazakhstan/Mongolia with Argali and Markhor would have been cool as well.
A new NA map with WT deer & some peccary is a good thing. Bighorn Sheep, Pronghorn, Mule deer all would be good. I won't get too excited until they disclose the rest of the line up.
It takes a lot of work to develop a map. These guys-n-gals have done an outstanding job in the past when it comes to the scenery and it looks like they'll score a repeat with the new one. I think some players will be amazed at how difficult it might turn out to be to hunt in a hot and dry environment. I know for a fact that in RL it's not easy or as wide open as you'd think. I wouldn't bet the farm of patrolling a water source being the key to finding need zones like it's been on the other maps. Just saying....

The animals that make the most sense in terms of repeats are Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Pronghorn, Bighorn Sheep, and Mountain Lions. In-terms of new animals we could see Mexican Ibex, Desert Brocket Deer, Bobcats, and Collared Peccary for larger animals and small (non-bird/rabbit) animals could include things like raccoons, possums, and armadillos. For anyone interested in birds, Ring-neck Pheasants and Sandhill Cranes are also hunted there alongside Grouse, Quail, and Turkey quite commonly.

Edit: I should also note that there are populations of Oryx and Aoudad (Barbary Sheep) in Arizona, New Mexico, and Northern Mexico that were introduced there in the 1960s/1970s as part of the exotic game craze that arose during that period.

Yep, the lack of water on top of dense dry vegetation and rocky terrain is going to make this map very different, particularly when making an attempt to find any smaller game animals on the map. I'm personally quite excited to see where this could go in terms of an animal lineup.

Fair enough, reserving the formation of an opinion until you have more info is always good. I also think that Peccary will be quite fun, although be prepared to have to defend it from all the people that will try to complain about it being a copy-paste of Wild Boar.
As I always say the more content for this game the better. Whether it be maps, guns, clothes, scopes, etc. Even if I personally don't like it , the more the better..

That being said.. from all the locations in the world. They pick and area that so far seems to be the SRP 'lineup' with a desert backdrop.

If that's the case. This is a hard pass for me personally. desert also = no tree stands which makes me cringe a little.

Have a good one :cheech:
I would prefer "exotic animals" like zebra, ostrich, hyenas ... in other words another Africa map.
Very tired of mule deer, red deer and similars, goats and wild pigs.
Curious to see how this is going to play out. If it's just going to be an open shooting-gallery style map with GO, I'm not a fan. Deserts are fun in small doses, but I much rather be outdoors in the mountains both in game and IRL. Vurhonga is my least favorite map in the game as far as looks/terrain but at least it has some interesting big game.

From what the trailer showed it seems that the new map will be a combination of desert shrublands and mountains, plus the vegetation seems to be quite thick with creosote bushes, palo verde trees, and cacti absolutely everywhere. It should make for a pretty interesting experience IMO, but we'll have to wait and see what is on the map to make a definitive opinion.
