I got only 2 diamonds from missions, not one single diamond from hunting myself. I only had 1 diamond in taiga, unfortunately it was a bad shot, so it turned out only being gold ://
This tool tells me, i only have 1 DIA in Taiga (just started this region recently) / 5 DIA in Layton Lake / 5 DIA in Hirschfelden.
COTW is designed for people that appreciate the hunt, and all its dynamics.
There are many individual goals and pursuits. A trophy for one might not be for another.
For those who are expecting COTW to devolve into an arcade where top score and leaderboards are the only worthy quarry, I sure hope that you are unsuccessful in swaying EW in that direction.
I dont know how many of the original developers are still there, but all of their hard work to create the most amazing hunting game ever should not be forgotten or dishonored by dismissing and rewriting all of their original intent.
It doesnt have to be just about the money now, that they think they've gotten as much ad they can out of it, it began with an idea, one built on great research. Dont sell all that down the tube now just to cash in on dregs.
All the customers who made it a success, did so because of what it was. We, and those original devs, deserve a legacy of consistence.
You are very right about that. I love this game and the developers should all get a pat on the back for what they have created. As an avid hunter, I have been disappointed by game after game but this one is amazing and truly comes out on top.
I do not want this post to seem ungrateful for what they have done and the countless gold animals I have harvested (many of which are in my trophy lodge)
However, It is nice every once in a while to get a diamond or a rare fur. I remember my diamond water buffalo I got. Hunted it literally for days. Was such a thrill.
My big concern with the original post is I just hadn't gotten a diamond in a while and was worried that maybe something was up with my game as I hadn't seen any diamond animals in a few months.
I agree wholeheartedly that diamonds should be rare. But it still would be nice to kill one every hundred hours of gameplay or so.
i've used nexus for a while, mostly for skyrim back when that was new. it's worth registering, in my opinion.
I also enjoy seeing bucks no matter the level. Everyone will have their own reasons and play styles, but i think too many dwell on a medal and self inflict them self with disappointment they shouldn't be feeling. I taxidermy rare furs even if their only a silver. They can bring me as much and sometimes more joy then a huge trophy animal.
It sounds like we enjoy the game on very similar levels Krax, well said and happy hunting.
Agreed about the conseq, we all hated that, however it did serve the purpose of not tolerating wasted game, and I wish EW had accounted for that by some other means than simply decreasing the cash award.
I think alot more people now do not have the incentive to track down their cripples, or to avoid mass shooting for cash and only collecting what is easy to find.
I know it's just a game, and personal approach, but to true IRL hunters it's an unforgiving and sacred code of the wilderness.
I have suggested in past posts that Conseq should have been followed up with a considerable fine for not harvesting an animal you wound. A fine considerable enough in amount to st least make a hunter accountable to some level of honor code.
You don't get diamonds for nothing, you need to kill the high-class male-animals to have a chance for a respawn of a diamond one, atleast that is how i understood this tool after 'observing' all my kills recently. I mean, that's the challenge, not just useless hunting IMO.
Hunting low-class animals seems useless, just good for XP&$$$.
So, yes, diamonds are important! :)
I appreciate the sentiment there Backspace, and do agree that scoring at the top is rewarding.
I just wanted to address the 'waste of time' thinking, with regard to any goal intent from the very start of one's hunting trip being focused solely on diamonds.
I realize in many games getting the highest score or the best weapon/armor, etc. Is typically what players chase after, but in hunting there is alot more involved in the dynamic of Interacting in the environment.
Which I'm sure you get.
And I do understand the concerns surrounding the mystery of spawning. I would NOT recommend altering game files as that is a future conflict waiting to happen. And I'm not sure about this diamond tracking APP, I wouldnt use it myself, but i suppose it has its merit with anyone who is desperate for that diamond score.
IMHO, i refrain from calling animals diamonds, and prefer to stick to designating them trophies, regardless of their potential score upon harvest.
That trophy is still the same animal whether you're lucky enough to drop it dead on the spot or not, right!
So really, calling animals diamonds prematurely is sort of depreciating.
It's more of a personal mindset than an actual animal in the game. With the sole exception of "the great one' of course.
I agree wholeheartedly. Even thought this is a game I still feel awful for wounding an animal. A fine would definitely be a good idea to keep people from just shooting at whatever moves and instead making every shot count like in real life. I've spent many of long nights staring at the ceiling waiting for daybreak to go track a wounded animal or that feeling of utter remorse when you can't find one. The worst is when you know you've killed the animal but you lost the trail in the dark and you lay in bed and listen to the rain. Adding something that penalizes the hunter for not recovering an animal should definitely be an addition in the future.
