Best medium-game rifle/load?
What's the best medium-game rifle/load for Silver Ridge and Medved-Taiga?

Need something that's good for lynx, mtn lion, sheep/goats, mule deer and maybe even boar. Need decent knockdown power and accuracy out to at least 250 yards. Any thoughts?

I would suggest either of the two .30-06 rifles or the new .303. They're both good for class 4 - 8.

Thanks. I'll give them a shot. Any thoughts on poly vs soft tip?

The .303 is fast, accurate, and has good stopping power. Plus, it weighs less than the .30-06 rifles. Poly tip ammo always. I can't remember for sure right now, but I think lynx are class 3, though. That means the .30-06 and the .303 won't pass integrity with them.

.243 rifle is good in Medved for shooting Lynx and Musk Deer.
For all the others you mentioned 30.06 or M1 work great.

for that type of animals i would use :
M1 ( 30-06 Poly )
.243 ( poly ammo )
.22r ( for class 1 )

good hunting

deppends all the rifles below are good
classic 270
7mm
303
m1
7.5
30.6
all are good guns for 4 to class 6 you can hunt 7 with all of them but i prefer the 7mm or a bigger caliber for bears

The .303 with soft tip ammo is working quite well for sheep/goats, deer, and mtn lion. Tried poly tip, but seems like i get more consistent 1-shot kills with soft tips as long as i can get a profile or quartering shot. I usually can if I'm patient, and the animals go down quicker so I'm losing fewer of them after the shot.

Looks like I'm going to have to find something different for lynx though to pass harvest check. Going back and forth on whether to buy the .223 for lynx/coyotes/musk deer, or stick with the trusty old .243. I really like the reach of the .223, but it seems like the game really undervalues how much damage it does. Any thoughts, guys?

edit - soft tip ammo works really well for Colorado, but not getting enough penetration on the bigger animals in Russia, so will be switching to poly for that

30-06 ekers or m1 are very good for medium game (4-8 class).Practice makes difference ,but you can get vital hits with this gun from longest ranges. For small game 22lr.Best bow in my opinion is the crossbow .For class 3 i recomand the mosin and for class 2 the 243.
For class 9 I ussualy use 338. ,9.6 or 7 mm.If you dont have in mind to buy any dlc the 7mm is your best choice for class 4-9.

I tried the .223 and the .243 on Fox, Lynx, Coyotes etc.. and recommend you stick with the .243 It's regrettable that they made the decision to exclude 7.62 mm for use on Class 2 animals but it is what it is. For New Zealand I swap out the .243 for the 7.62 mm since there are no Class II animals to deal with there.

.223 is theoretically a good caliber for class 2 and 3, less drop but also less punch than the .243 .
Consider the 30-30 if you can reliably get within 75m on the lynx. Has good iron sights.

I use .300 Canning Magnum for large game. Solokhin MN1890 is good for medium, like lynx, reindeer, whitetails etc. Also always carry compound bow. Good for everything and most fun to hunt with. Nordin 20SA Serviceman, for rabbits and ducks. I can carry all 4 weapons and still stay under 20 kilos.

the .243 is working, but i may try the air rifle for lynx. seems like most of my lynx shots are fairly close, and the reduced noise is great. the .223 is regrettably just bad. not enough penetration to even get through a coyote's ribcage sometimes
