You'll get docked for shooting anything the head.
Pinger May 30, 2021 @ 11:23pm
All of them you are more likely to miss, brain is a very small target. Plus most have the trophy in the head. So double lung or heart shot.

Only one you need to is Buffalo they don't give you the option if they smell you, 2 tonnes running straight at you

Asking which species it's okay to shoot in the head is a shorter list. Ducks and Geese.
That's it.

Shooting any 4 footed animal in the head is frowned upon and unless you hit the brain it will not kill it quickly. You'll fail the harvest check, be penalized in terms of $ earned for the kill (if it actually does die) and the medal rating of the animal will drop one level turning your diamond into a gold, a gold into a silver etc.. I'll take a brain shot on those mission related animals I have to harvest with undamaged lungs or 100% quick kill but that's a brain shot, not a head shot. A lot more precision shot placement is required for a brain shot and I pick a lower level/scoring animal when I do it. Sure, I get penalized for it but the missions are completed and I can move on. Aside from that I always aim to hit the heart, lung, liver or to break the beasts neck.

If you're caught doing a head shot in the real world we'll break your gun and take your boots. Have a nice walk out.

When I first started playing this game, headshots were encouraged. But a bunch of crybaby whiny pants "Breadbasket" shooters started crying jumping up and down and making a fuss saying, that this was teaching hunter the wrong kind of real-life hunting ethics. The devs stupidly caved to these idiots and change the game to punch you for making a headshot.

As a real hunter that has hunted for over 40 years around the world, the Headshot, is the most human shot possible. Only bad shots and trophy hunters should shoot an animal in the "Breadbasket".

What NOT to headshoot? ANYTHING with Antlers or Horns!!!

It's not humane at all. A slight miss and you blow off the jaw. You lose the animal and it dies a painful death starving.

The decision to remove headshots is not solely due to ethics, it´s just an unrealistic way to hunt. The brain is a very small traget and if u don´t hit the animal perfectly, it dies painfully. Furthermore nobody wants to destroy the skull and the primary trophy organ. I am no IRL hunter, but I never heard about hunting this way. The game is a simulation and should not be completely unrealistic.

hm, today i did a frontal headshot on a Caribou with the .303 stock ammo at about 130m. It run e few hundred m but trophy showed a 100% kill and it does not hit the brain ... :-)

Did you pass the harvest check on that Caribou you shot in the head? If the animal dies within 6 seconds it's a 100 percent kill no matter where you shoot it but you won't pass the harvest check unless you have a lucky bug in your game. Sometimes head shot animals bleed out and die and if a single hit causes that to happen the harvest screen will show that the bullet was 100% responsible.

Just to clear things up...it's not just animals with horns or antlers that matter when it comes to avoiding brain or head shots. African Lions, Puma, Jackals, Fox, coyotes and Mtn Lions all show the skull as their trophy organ. Some of those used to be scored by weight by that's a thing of the past now. That pretty much just leaves bunnies and birds for hits to the head being okay.

Nope! Real hunters aren't sissies and run to the cops like little girls. Nice try.

No, headshots have never been encouraged, never. The community didn't have anything to do. There are hunters among the devs and they always discouraged headshots even before they changed the mechanic to actually punish you for damaging the skull for most animals. They always talked about the subject consistently in dev-streams since year one.

I second that.

They really never encouraged it not here and not in the hunter classic.
