Settings changed or reset after Hounds DLC?
Has anyone else noticed that some game settings have changed, and others have reset to defaults? The first thing I noticed was that dpad down no longer holsters what you are holding (I used an xbox controller on PC for movement, mouse for aim). Looking at the bindings, "holster" is now set to LB which is also bound to "equip huntermate" I'm 99.9% positive that dpad down previously holstered whatever you were holding for an unobscured view.
The other setting I noticed soon after was "YOU KNOW I SPOTTED..." blasting in my ear. I had turned "tutorials/hints" off long ago, but it's back on now. My color settings for tracks, etc. appear to be custom still though. I suppose the tutorials/hints was re-enabled in order to display the info on how to get a hound, which I got shortly before creepy stalker guide piped up in my ear.

Hi dbump,
some of my custom defined keys were not working after the Bloodhound DLC update. One of them had been used for the new dog communication wheel. Others were not dog related as far as I can tell.

Checking the key mapping showed the correct keys for the commands. Setting the same key again made them working again.

I detected no reset or problems with other customized game settings so far.

Good point--they would have added "command wheel" with the dog DLC, and had to re-assign an exiting binding to accommodate. Guessing their statistics showed "holster" was the least used binding.
Edit: it looks like if you leave the settings at default, now short press of LB toggles the huntermate, long press holsters whatever is in your hands. It's possible that is also the case if you bind holster and command wheel to a single button. The new codex entries for dogs mention long press for some of the new commands.

You can now be 100.00% sure, because I can confirm the D-Pad Down was draw/holster before this update. They needed the D-pad for Bloodhound control.

Yes. The key binding is updated with dog command. I recommend scrolling all the way down and press "Reset to defaults" first. This fix any key binding glitch happened with Dog update. Holster is now press and hold LB as mentioned above.

I am confused.

I play primarily on the Xbox (the only console that has a LB button) and I don't have the option to change the key-bindings, let alone reset to defaults.

Are you playing on a PC with a controller (why?) or is there a way to modify the button mappings on console?

I forgot that you can't remap the controls on console. The new method is a little more fussy than the old mappings. DPad up is still the same, and once you've pressed that, you still exit that mode with DPad down. However to holster whatever you are holding, you now have to press and hold LB. I'm finding that if you release while the characters hands are still in motion it works better, otherwise what you'll get is a full cycle of holster/unholster (or the reverse). I just tested this on XBox to confirm.

I do play COTW primarily on PC with a controller, because I find it vastly more comfortable than using a keyboard. I game on both platforms, but use the controller on most PC games that allow it--I just don't find any substitute for having two analog sticks, two analog triggers, a dpad, and 6 buttons all in easy reach, and an ergonomic package. I do move my right hand over to a mouse when aiming a weapon, but otherwise I just use the controller. The analog sticks also allow for two speeds of movement in walking and crouch positions, which reduce how much sound you generate. I don't think there is an equivalent for the slow crouch on keyboard. Regardless, it's just incredibly intuitive to back off on the analog stick for slower movement. It's also easy to walk in a constant direction while also sweeping the horizon for animals, by rotating both sticks at the same time. In game, this results in your character walking sideways and backwards, where IRL, you would of course just be turning your head to do the same thing without even thinking about it. I'm sure hard-core keyboard fanatics can do the same thing. I can't. I type on a keyboard for 8 hours a day, and I'm very ready to push that thing away in the evening when I play games.
