Your hunting Style - And Why
I am starting this thread because I would like to know what your hunting style is and why it works for you. I am more interested in why it makes you more money and or give you the best integrity score.

Here are what I have heard are some hunting styles:

1) Run-n-gun
2) Wait-n-Shoot at need zones using or not using tripods/tree stands
3) Stalk-n-Shoot on foot using walk, crouch or crawl
4) Find-Wait-Shoot where is just walk and find a spot and sit and wait with tripod/tree stand using callers

I have tried all these above and find "Stock-n-Shoot" (mostly crouching) with callers work best for me. It is a slower play, but it feels more like real hunting. I tried Run-n-Gun but I scare away too many animals and seem to make less money . Plus with this style you have to chase down animals more taking more time.

So, what is the best hunting style that works for you, and why?

number 4 is my style 90% of the time, just because I always have been an ambush/stealth kill type of player, but I don't have the tree stand DLC so I hide under the tree branches, if its a flat spot and not on a hill I can still see all the way around me

I'm not interested in money. I guess my style fits more your number 3. I just select an outpost or tent to start, then select a destination and start walking. I almost never make it to the destination since I'll be following tracks or calls until I harvest an animal.
I've never liked the game having need zones. I find very boring even having stands or tripods near need zones. Though it is probably the best money making method.

Edit: I think need zones are the game crutches to compensate for how slow is the progression model. An unfortunate inheritance from Classic where the progression is equally slow or even worst, but where you can get all weapons and equipment paying real money.

4

we found a sweet couple lakes with lots of water / resting / feeding zones, put bunch of tents and tripods around them (cant seem to get tree stands to work), and call them in, works great. if nothin shows we fast travel to tents in other area, rinse repeat, usually a shoot out lol.

7mm favorite gun atm, well rounded.

Explore stalk and shoot. wind always to the side or in face. very slow going but effective. When whitetail farming I hunt all water sources during drink times. Usually take about three real time days for entire map. This has resulted in lots money, many diamond bucks, and two great ones in layton and one great one in rancho.. If I am working on something real time, I will sit in tripod or hunting stand when they were working. if in the right spot usually will get me a few kills. I like blind hunting for ducks but will use 22 rifle and take them on water easy money there. Hunting drink zones for african lions has been good. lots of diamonds. still looking for albino one. I have also been killed alot by the lions. lol.

1) Is not the most productive use of ones time and running around with a loaded gun or hopping off an ATV to try and shoot an animal the engine noise spooked out of hiding are not safe hunting methods.
2) Is a good way to spend a relatively unproductive day if you stay at a need zone outside of the posted time frames when animals "might" be in the area.
3) You can STALK prey. You STOCK shelves in Walmart. Stalking is done after you know where an animal is. Done correctly it comes at the tail end of the 4 steps of the hunting process, just before pulling the trigger.
4) Not the most productive use of time.

The 4 steps to a successful hunt are scouting, planning, preparation (in this game be sure to take the right weapon ammo for the animals you are likely to encounter and perhaps a first aid kit) and finally the execution of the plan you developed.

I'll use all the Scenarios, just depends on where I am and what i'm after.
Larus Jul 24, 2021 @ 12:42pm
Depends enterly on the animals I'm hunting and the map. Running and gunning can be the best approach if you have lots of open fields and know the locations. Dosen't work on maps like Hirschfelden at all though.

Waiting and shooting should overall bet be least effective way to hunt in this game, but even that has its moments when I hunt by having the game run the background ;)

I agree with those above who pick the style to match the area, the time of day, and the target quarry. However, I'm happiest when I'm stalking or tracking. That's mostly how I hunt IRL, so, like the OP, it just feels more like hunting to me. Plus, you get to really explore the maps that way, and the one thing this game does VERY well, is environment. There are times when I swear I can smell the hot rocks in the sun or the rain on the grass.

I generally hunt on the move. I use trees, bushes, grass, rocks, etc. to hide and stalk. I have hunted virtually every animal in the game that way. This is not to say I don't occasionally set up a tripod or tree stand at a likely location near a zone, or use a hunting stand (when you didn't fall through them.) Rocks are great for vantage points, just watch out for the polygon hit box.

I like to use a bow. Advantages are lower hunting pressure and spooking far less. Disadvantages (I guess) is that you have to get closer. IMO a bow actually is better for those not-so-great shots, as it bleeds far better than a bullet. I have harvested gut shot moose that would have stopped bleeding if it were a gun shot.

Every map has it's own strategies. A lot of people get frustrated at Vurhonga because there is so much flat country / open areas where the animals can see you from a long way away. I do more crawling in Vurhonga than any other map. The large open grasslands in Silver Ridge are a rifle shooter's paradise, but a real challenge with a bow. Te Awaroa forests are darker than the other maps. I Haven't spent a lot of time on Medved-Taiga but I LOVE all the rocks and high places where you can go prone and still see a decent way.

Rocks are a big go-to for me, when stalking especially. I will drop prone on top of logs, also, to get me up off the ground so I can see over the grass and brush. If I'm setting up an ambush, I'll often trample the surrounding foliage (especially for photographs) to give me a better shooting lane.

I generally use the bow over everything else, so stalk and shoot is my bread and butter. Especially now with the dogs update. I can turn off all the glowing stuff and just slip through the terrain hunting. Super enjoyable. As for the best way to make money, that's simple. Find a good spot for ducks/ geese and go to town. I have made my way to lvl 60 twice now, and never tried out duck hunting. Gave it a try a week back and was blown away. The amount of money made with such minimal effort was crazy. Nice way save up quick for a new gun or item , but just a bit to boring for me. I can definitely see the upside to it though.
3 and 4 for me. I guess maybe 1) run and gun if I see something cross my path while on the quad haha I might go for a hop off and quick shot for the lung but thatll probably be a fail haha

3 (Stalk & Shoot) and occasionally 1 (Run & Gun) with a little bit of 2, it depends mostly on where I am hunting, what I am hunting and my equipment
Poltergeist Jul 24, 2021 @ 10:53pm
I have a mixture of techniques. All of my maps are fully set up. If I am in a known need time, such as a drink time, I will pop over to some stands and look around. If not, I will walk into the wind in areas I don't usually go to. If I see or hear something, I will crouch walk towards it and kill it. I almost never run unless I am trying to harvest and move on. I never hunt by following tracks. I find it a bit tedious. I will hang out at a spot and use callers if I am bow hunting.

I enjoy duck and goose hunting as well. I have Alaska, Layton and Parque set up for duck hunting.

Mostly crouching. Feels slow but you usually get to do more hunting. I do fast crouch to travel and when necessarily slow crouch or crawl. For sneaking up. Running for me only when I want to harvest and don't care about scaring animals. Usually only when I harvest before logging off.

I don't stalk blindly based on tracks I find. Only when I know the animal is there. And even then I prefer not to. Only exception might by a herd of bison. Only because they tend to be slow and it really pays off.

I'll go proper once the grind for perks and skills is over.
Edit:
Okay, I'm being a bit facetious, but...also not.
Game is designed to be a pain in the ass sometimes, so my anger factor rises the more time I take.
