Wolf attack!
I was attacked by over 10 iberian wolf at night at the SE part of the map. How do I trigger a wolf attack or not trigger them? It looks like they don't like noise, but I am not exactly sure.

Wolves are very good at detecting someone that might be in their vicinity or tracking them, your best bet is to make sure the wind direction is good and that you crawl on the ground to minimize risk. Get in a position where you can shoot them, if you're tracking a large pack then make sure you're the one that acts first and not them because a group that size will probably attack you if you get close enough for them to decide you're food.

You can also anticipate where they will be of course, find their preferred watering holes and resting areas and you can set up a stand and wait for them to arrive and shoot them that way. (or simply go there at that time knowing they are probably there and do your best not to get detected in doing so)

I have noticed they with get you to follow them they will go to another pack the other pack will come up behind your and ambush you so keep on you toes

Those Iberian wolves are mean SOBs compared to the Yukon variety, and the Yukon ones ran me down and ate me on the ATV when i first drove around their territory.

This is a bigger deal at night because I don't have NVG and a squad like in arma 3, but you all are correct. Which wolf is meaner? Iberian or Gray wolf?

Wolf behaviour and agression is completely unrealistic. They sometimes attack and sometimes run away. I haven't found a pattern in their behaviour so far, it seems rather random (although they might be more agressive when they have a high ranked pack leader). They can be triggered into attack by loud noise (ATV) but they can also run away from it. I haven't found a clear difference in agression between grey and spanish either. In any case I usually carry plenty of anti-wolf guns to slaughter as many as I can before they kill me. If you manage to bring a tripod as well you're usually good.

The aggression level of a pack can be determined by the level of the alpha (leader) and the size of the pack. A large pack with a high-level alpha is much more likely to be aggressive than a smaller pack with a lower-level alpha.

I think it is wandering in their territory , cross their path, need zone.
They will stalk you. its usually one that is leading the pack after you.
Once you start hearing the howling . run run run as fast as you can. Have the rhino ready dodge and shoot. if to many of them fast travel to nearest outpost. If hunting them do so from far off. Try to kill off all of them or the alpha before collecting your bounrty.

Bumping this, as I`ve just had my first attack !

Heard them howl REALLY close last night, and was waiting for them to attack, but they never did, and just now whilst in the SE part of Medved, I was tracking a Bear I`d shot.

The dog was off tracking the blood, when I heard a growl...being fairly new to this, I thought it might have been the Bear, and he was probably behind a tree nearby, and a bit angry that I`d just shot him.

But then a 2nd growl....and a 3rd....WTF ? That`s a clever Bear throwing his voice like that, I thought....and then I realised ! oh no ! Wolves ! Got the handgun out, and was frantically spinning around, trying to find where they were, and to save myself !

Then spotted 2 of them, behind a tree, watching me, and growling and snarling...and then another 2.....and another, and then.....screen goes red, and there were more of them behind me ! the sneaky s***s ! Now I`m surrounded, and they`re taking turns running at me and attacking !

I was firing off all over the place, trying to take out as many as I could and survive ! I had to reload, and one of them was kind enough to stand right in front of my whilst I did ! I was so sure he was going to attack, but he remained still until I`d reloaded, and I dropped him.

But, there was just too many of them, and they got me ! Spawned back to the lodge, and then returned to the scene, to find I`d managed to kill 5 of them ! And the posts above, that mentioned a high level male, could likely lead an attack, sounds about right, as when collecting them all, there were 2 x level 7`s amongst the dead.

I`ve not seen anything above a 4 yet, and never been attacked, and so I`ll be VERY wary next time I spot a high level one....although he`ll likely spot me first, and send the gang !

Oh, and managed to find the Bear I was tracking as well, and not a Wolf in sight !

It was terrifying, and never experienced anything like that in WOTH !

Once these iberian wolves were chasing a muflon or similar, then all of them stopped to attack me. Ever since I try to carry that treestand or how you say that, and if they are getting close, I just climb on a tree. Also I carry a pistol in case trees are not close.

First time I was attacked by wolves in the Yukon I was terrified, and teleported to a tent. Second time I was firing without really aiming. Not surprisingly, I died. Now I carry a load-out that includes 1 Cacciatore 12ga with 6 rounds, 1 Caversham 12ga with 2 rounds, 2 x .470 Kings, and a Arzyna .300 magnum. I stand and fight them now and very rarely do I lose. I also carry a ton of first aid kits tied to my 'T' key, so I can quickly bandage up. Tried carrying pistols a long time ago, but the reload speed is too slow to be effective.

A dog is good also for early warning + he might fend them off.
Exiting with the wolves. When you hear them, try to figure out if they are closing in on you or just passing by. Meanwhile, look for an advantage point just in case.

Carry a tripod stand with you at all times. Deploy it and climb on if thinks get hairy. Nothing can get you while you're on the stand.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
