Will getting the Bloodhound DLC...
....make the game easier?

I get tired of following injured animals which eventually just disappear so it's s (semi) serious question ;-)

Yes, you will never lose another animal and you won't have the frustration of following blood trails in circles.

You are jokin' right?

It surely can't be that good.

It also bring a layer of difficulty to sneak targets the closest possible without being spotted, you have to play with emotes and order the dog to sit or prone. Bought it too, it is good if you are lazy, but a bit boring to manage and a high risk of failure.

As a beginner yet I find it is easier without it, got plenty of kills 2-3 meters away from the target I would have probably failed with him around.

Also if you order him to sit somwhere and you are like more than 20meters away from him, he will be back to follow you, another difficulty to handle.

I don't recommend it as a beginner, it is easy enough to follow the blood, this is the fun game, and anyway I believe the goal is the perfect shot for instant death, so the dog is useless in this case.

Thanks class101 [linux] for your detailed post. It helps me decide based on your info :-)

I've bought the game with the dog and tbh I cant imagine playing w/o him

I've been in several situations where the animal just decided to run around in 2 circles before continuing and the dog always follows the blood exactly to the animal.

It's a minigame itself to keep him around though. Gotta make sure he doesnt spook the followed animal any further, and/or spook animals approaching you when you're using the lure

Thanks Vaykor that's great info too - much appreciated.

Is it possible to use the dog when it suits you? I mean if I buy the DLC can I 'test the dog out' and decide at some stage that I perhaps I'd be better off not using him. Or will I be stuck with having him in game with no options to play alone?

everything what class 101 said, I just want to add that the dog itself cant spook stuff around, except on a follow on an injured (but alive) animal, but when you sneak by a need zone f.e. and your dog is running around the Dog cant spook anything. I tested this on a deeper level when i sneaked on several needzones and was probably 30 / 40 meters away from animals, the dog was running right infront of them and the animals were calm.

When animals like Lions, coyotes, pumas etc. (in short: Predators) are nearby the dog warns you, even if youself dont see them.

I like the Bloodhound DLC much, even when I wouldnt need the Dog to track down animals but his other abillities are nice aswell.

Voodoocola. Thankyou so much for this extra info. It adds immensely to my decision.

If I can turn Fido 'on and off' dependant on whether I like using him then I am sold. I'll be buying :-)

Basically can he be turned off fully, or instructed in the field to not do certain things?

Yes, you have a kennel (in the armory menu, somewhere near the Garage for the ATV), and can let the dog in it and wander alone. (or even buy another one, and train this one too, each has his own levels and perks you chosse as it level)

I will just add that since I have the dogs, I disabled the tracks highlights for more immersion, but it's just me.

Just a tip if you are like me and disabled ALL highlights in the game: doggo bark to let you know where he is, but also has a GPS collar: you can track it on your phone. (I often lose sight of my dog when he run after a blood track in the bushes)

No, I am not joking. The dog has never failed finding my poorly shot animals. If the animal dies, the dog will find it every time, guaranteed.

If the animal does not die, the dog will tell you it is tracking prey instead of tracking blood.

Yes its possible to leave the dog at home (kennel) and go hunting without it.
