How complete is the base game?
I have played a few hours in classic but got put off that everyting was behind paywalls and licences (Where a feature is only available for 30 days before needing to buy the licence againt). Now i'm wondering: How complete is Call of the Wild , without any of the 20 paid DLC'?

There are no real world monetary expenses other than the DLCs. Some things cost in game currency but you earn that through harvesting animals. That being said, if you haven't purchased the game yet then it's way cheaper to buy a bundle rather than pay for each DLC individually. Once you own the base game you cannot buy a bundle later on.

Earning ingame currency by playing to buy new items is just someting that gives a feeling of progression, thus making the game more enjoyable. But i just want to know how much the game has, if i don't buy any of the DLC's. Does the game feel complete without the DLC's? Or does it seem like features have being left out so it can be sold as a DLC?

there are NO licences in classic, and you can buy ALL items with ingame earned currency.

if you play CotW you have the "paywall" - everything is a DLC you have to buy, and often you cant even use it till you meet the requirements (lvl, money...).

I wouldn't play without tents personally, but the DLC is dirt cheap compared to most games. Tents were on sale for $1.39 recently. You could easily have hundreds of hours of fun with just the base game and tents. The maps in this game are big enough to keep you busy for quite awhile

It's cool. What'll happen is you'll play the base game enjoy it then won't mind buying the DLC.

It looks like most of your CoTW questioned have been answered so I'll just clear up some info about Classic.

I'm not sure when you last played Classic but on May 8th 2019 it went completely Free to play. If you enjoyed the game, it may be worth taking a second look at. :steamhappy:

I too came for the hunter: classic for the same reason and I´m quite happy here.
The base game is ok.
If two maps are enougth depends on how much you play.

The game it self feels complete - if you don´t know the DLCs.
Once you start watching youtube many DLCs become "want haves".
Fortunately most of them are around 3-4€ on one of the very frequent sales.
So you´ll spent extra money but it´s no where close to TH:C

There are a lot of threads discussing what DLCs are "good".

i havent spend one cent on TH:C

you can earn enough ingame currency to buy all items in the store ;)
Well op you already answered your own question. The fact the game has 29 dlcs indicates that the base game isn't complete at all.

If you go through those dlcs you'll see a lot of the content that should have already been included in the base game was cut out and sold separately as dlc.

The base game only gets 2 maps which is extremely low. You'll be missing out on like 90% of the weapons, another 8 maps, a bunch of different animals to hunt, a bunch of scents, lures, decoys, tents, tree stands, tripods, atvs, nightvision binoculars/scopes, ground blinds, etc.

If you want the full experience you're basically forced to buy (some of) the dlcs.

Most people have expended most of their playtime in a single map that is the one they liked more. The base game is a pretty complete experience, though, it is incredibly cheap by any standard. Same with the DLCs.

Bottom line is, buy the full package (2021) if you have the chance now that it is on sale. If you liked Classic, you're going to get tons of hours of fun out of COTW. Notice, however, that if you buy the base game now, later you won't be able to get the bundles and will be forced to get each DLC individually. That's one of the few bad things about this devs/publishers.

It is a ton of fun. You can always add any DLC for a few bucks here and there if you want.

Get the game. Start having FUN!

The bad news is that some DLC appears to have been left out solely for the purpose of coaxing a little more money out of your wallet. Those DLCs, in my opinion, and in descending order of importance to me, are: Tripods DLC, Tents DLC and ATV DLC.

The good news is that this is a very short list of very cheap DLCs. These three DLs add up to $4; so you can get them and the base game for a total of under $10. The two game reserves which come with the base game are beautiful, MASSIVE, and very well done: worth hundreds of playing hours. Think of that: hundreds of playing hours for $10.

The $12 pack + Tripods DLC will fix you up with all the quality of life DLCs and gets you two extra reserves (including Verhonga Savannah!), all for under $14. If you prefer duck hunting, and goose hunting will not scratch that itch, then add another $1.50 for that DLC.

Although I already own the game and a bunch of DLCs, I bought myself the next step up (package plus four DLCs, described below), for my alternate STEAM account, for $27. ~THAT~ cheapo bundle exceeds the sum of COTW goodies I have on my original account. The currently running deal is just way, WAY too good to pass up! Here it is:

- TheHunter CotW 2021 Edition ($21.36); plus...
- ATV Saber 4x4 DLC; plus...
- Tents & Ground Blinds DLC; plus...
- Weapon pack 1; plus...
- Wild Goose chase DLC.

If you buy that combo of (pack + 4 DLCs), you get access to every weapon that EW made for the game before 2021 (you have to work, in-game, to unlock some of those, but they will not be behind a paywall for you), and immediate full access to most of the game reserves from before 2021 (Medved-Taiga, which is not a player-base favorite; and Verhonga Savannah, which is a favorite, are missing), all the bird hunting goodies and all the "quality of life" DLCs.

The number of reserves you get with the $27 pack is ridiculous, and can, literally, keep you occupied for a thousand hours. Literally. (I've spent about 300 hours just in the two reserves of the base game, and have not yet fully explored either of them.) The only significant things missing from the above, which some might want, are:
1. the bloodhound DLC; but I, like many, do not want it. If you just have to have that, then it's another $4 during the sale.
2. The Verhonga Savannah DLC is going for just under $3, if you want to hunt on an exotic "African Safari" style reserve. (And, yeah, I think they left that one out because they know most people will kick in an extra $3 to get it. ... And... it is definitely worth the $3.)

With the bundle I described above, EW delivers easily quadruple what some AAA games deliver, at less than 1/2 the price. If you like open world hunting which tries to mimic the real thing, you cannot do better than this game; and $5, $10, $14, $27, or $30 (depending on what you decide) is a pittance. You will be happy, no matter what you get, but at the higher end (e.g., $14, $27, $30) you will be even happier that you chipped in that little extra bit of cash.

Fare well, my friend.

I bought the 2019 bundle, and in my opinion it is a good game, where te DLC's aren't a nececity (Havn't used them in a couple of hours). Altough the ATV is an exception. It realy helps with exploring.

Good choice: Congrats!

Knowing what I know (and going off of my preferred play-style as an ambush hunter) The tripods DLCs can be an amazing "quality of a hunter's life" DLC. If you think there is any chance you will want to perch yourself out in the middle of a field, and be invisible to animals (and protected from the dangerous ones), then this DLC is a steal at $1.39.

I played, literally, hundreds of hours, feeling the need of nothing, with just the package you purchased (except I did not have ATVs, but wished I did), plus I had Tripods.

Yeah, the base game is "complete", but some DLC will have "quality of life" improvements, suiting your playstyle. (and more maps and reserves are alway cool, even if the most massive and beautiful one are the base game reserves, to my opinion ^^ Especialy hirschfelden)

If you like just walking in the wild (like I do!) and the immersion in the game, the bloodhound DLC is a good pick: it allowed me to disable the tracks/corpse colored highlight. But it's not something you will do in your first hours, more a change of pace to suit your preferences.

I have the ATV DLC, but use it only once in a while, last time, it was for a quick recovery of a nice animal I dropped across a river, to save the hassle of going all around to the next bridge by foot. (I don't do long shots often, close and dense areas when you hear animals before seing it suit more my preferences)

I admit tents, tripods, and carefull positionnement of theses around open gather areas seem the more "efficient" way to hunt in a productive (even competitive) manner. Just, not really my taste at the moment.

But that's also what's it's cool: you really can play this game the way it suit you best at the moment, and the DLC provide you with tools for that.
