But it depends on what you are looking to do in a game.
If you are happy to spend 30 mins or more looking for an animal to make a noise, then spend maybe another 30 minutes stalking and tracking it, in hope that you manage to land a good shot killing it instantly. Or not such a great shot and having to track the animal's blood spatter, and try and take another shot if it doesn;t eventually die. There is a great sense of achievement in it if you into this type of thing.
If you looking to go Rambo, and blast animals to kingdom come.. You won't like the game.
A lot of patience, and a bit of a learning curve, and skilling up both in game and personally in the way you play, is required.
there are a few irritating bugs that you can read about in many posts in the forums. Personally, i haven;t encountered many that ruined the game for me. but they exist.
One trick is to not over do it on the graphics.
Hope this helps.
I'm sure others will have different opinions
ditto
-VAST open world that is gorgeous
-ability to stalk and hunt various animals
-Interesting quests
-an array of weapons from bows to rifles to handguns
-inexpensive DLCs to add to the game but not necessary ($3.99 US to $7.99 US for most)
-base game has multiple maps that are HUGE (tents and 4-wheelers DLC recommended.)
-A multiplayer option if you don't like going it alone.
It requires PATIENCE, just like in hunting. You can't run through the woods and expect a deer to be standing waiting for you to shoot it. That's the allure, a somewhat (I say somewhat because you have advantages in game that you don't in real life) realistic hunting environment.
*I play this game OFTEN and I haven't encountered any game breaking bugs. The most common for me has been killing an animal and the trophy body is invisible making it nearly impossible to find. I HAVE found it but it was mind numbing.
I find the Dog is helpful for this..
I have patience as long as the game is engaging and fun
I would say definitely engaging, and depends on what you consider fun.
If you are unsure, test your patience, as there is usually a really good sale on the game. Or check humble bundle. I think i got the game and some reserves/DLC from a bundle.
Get's stale pretty fast. Whether you like this type of game it's really up to you. Personally i lost quite a bit of interest when i started finding animals stuck in place or moving around in circles, and tracks or animals vanishing randomly. Edit: Also, the sounds played when the player interacts with the environment are just messed up. A hunting game that cannot do these basic things properly isn't fun in my books.
Make sure you read the forums/reviews before making up your mind.
The mechanics are well done, but require a lot of patience. You have to be OK that a hunt you've set up and waited for may not work out. Other times you'll have better results than you could have imagined. I can get easily frustrated, which is why I treat it as a hiking simulator first, and treat the hunting as a bonus.
The atmosphere's great, and turning off most elements of the HUD can be really immersive. Why look at a HUD wind indicator when you can turn it off and just watch which way the leaves and pollen are blowing? They do a good job with environmental details and it looks especially good if you've got a PC that can push the graphics up.
It's been a game that's helped me relax during the pandemic. It hasn't been safe to travel for a while, and walking in the same neighborhood every day can get repetitive, but I can play pretend hiking around the world in this game.
Get the DLCs for parks that look interesting to you and you'll have extra options to change your scenery when you want (they go on sale pretty regularly if price is an issue).
The biggest negative is that there are bugs. They haven't been too bad for me on the maps that have been released for a long time, but some DLC maps are buggier than others. Be aware that new big DLC releases often introduce bugs that take the dev team a while to iron out. The community's good on here and places like Reddit when it comes to workarounds, though. I had to play the game in offline mode for a while or it would crash at certain points and erase that day's progress, for instance. It's been pretty stable for me other than that, though.
