Best long range and self defense against buffalo
200 meter gun for buffalo? 338 or an dlc one? I own all dlc right now.

And close range.. drilling or a shotgun? Tried the .44 but it's too weak.

brainshots should be okay with the .338 at 200m, dunno about heart at that distance.
close range comes down to preferance id say. i like the bow/ crossbow and the drilling works fine too if you hit the heart. the rhino 454 should be good too.

the easiest self defense would be bow / 454 imo

Honestly I would recommend against hunting Buffalo at further than 125 meters or so. Even then you need to have a good shot. They are one of the most difficult kills in the game.

At close range use the 45-70, btw. That's the best close range rifle and it's as friendly on integrity as the .270 so you can use it on most other things, and shoot a lot of things several times and still get 100% integrity.

l using .338 polymer for long range, some time 9.3mm polymer, also using 600gr. arrow for close range.

.470 is powerful, but too expensive.

With the right bow you can knock anything right off it's feet in this game.

44 aint too weak if you use it well

can shoot heart with a 7mm or 338 and a nice scope if you target it from the front ( you target just under the buffalo chin and you have 90% chance that the bullet go to the heart )

tho i never hunt buffalo at range, only on close. because its too risky at long distance for quick death.

most of time, i provok them and when they run on me a single shot in the head do the deal.
for not good peoples, i recommend the king and the rhino. both will instantly stop the buffalo if you fail the shot.
( also running around trees is perfect against buffalo at close range XD )

Running behind trees or even into shallow water of a Kiva if one is nearby because I have yet to have one actually enter the water to get at me. They simply persist in coming back charge after charge but each charge ends at the waters edge offering numerous opportunities for a close range shot.

if your in buff country, i walk with 454 ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and ready to shoot , as they come from any where , 5 shots to the face usually stops them but front cheast if you can shoot under pressure is better

5 shot in the face would grant you 0% integrity lol and probably 0% quick death bonus either.

I've tried the .338 and can say it doesn't cut the mustard with Buffalo, Bison or Lion. The .470 is the gun of choice. In addition, for long range shots, you have better have your charts handy because the .338 isn't as far reaching as you think. I would say it's on a par with the .470 . In fact, I think I can safely say that almost all rifles have the same range (just over 163 yds. I think). Separates the experienced from the less experienced.

The price of a .470 is really high but it's value is also really high. I worked hard to get it and I'm not sorry.

The hard cased shell will send a bullet from one end of a water buffalo to the other, THE LONG WAY. With full values.

do you get 100% quick kill reliably on a buffalo with the 470 ?
id like to, but i find the 338 way more consistent because i have a scope to be way more precise at any distance.

its not hard to hit the brain at ~150m with the 338 for example.

lions are really easy too if you get double lung with the 338 at ~150m.

i really want to like the 470, but its way too hard to get 100% quick kill with it.
i need to get so close with it that i could just use a bow or crossbow and those are more powerful in my experience

the 470 lets you get way too close, can you kill bizon with the rifle part of the drilling rifle? that one got range right? and for close up you could use the slugs?

can you do brain shots with the drilling one? and how is it's scope? too short range?

buffalo are easy, use the .338 with the 1x4 scope or .454 Rhino. best self defense against a charging buffalo is to kill the darn thing. buffalo are easy, slow and dumb, they think they are invincible. areas with serious hunting pressure dont affect them, and they are not at all skittish. they just slowly walk along, if they run they dont do it for a long distance, they run, then stroll, easy to track, easy to get up close on and easy to drop with some serious firepower.

338 on lungs for defense id just use a shotgun with slugs preferably the 12ga
saphire jinn Apr 18, 2019 @ 7:37pm
every shot i do from my .338 or ..454, i drop what you call bison and i call buffalo in their tracks,
62 rifle or pistol shot score every time, 100%, 100%, 100%, i dont know what your issues are. just take a heart shot each time and you have them, as simple as that...good hunting.
you can move up close to them with no problem.
buffalo are easy and plentiful.
to me they as are as easy as ducks....or bears....it's easy money....
