how far from the bear were you? in my experience you need to be within ~40 meters. also, and it's a long shot, maybe the tree and brush's "hitbox" were partially blocking what the camera cpuld "see" clearly.

also, yeah i despise the animal photo missions. the easiest way would be to sleep till drinking time for them then skulk around the lake looking for drinking zones then plop a tent down nearby, fast travel away, sleep till drinking time start then fast travel back to the tent and wait/call for him.

Is the bear named "Mr. Black" when you spot him and/or was introduced with a message?
Else I'd also guess it might have been the foliage in the foreground.
If that happens again und you don't get a success message, just run towards him shooting lots of photos and you might get lucky.

I first took this mission a year ago, didn't bother doing it until now. What if mr. Black is dead by now?

Mr. Black is invulnerable until after the second mission that includes him is finished. The mission is to take a photo of the one and only "Mr. Black" (he spawns at a specific place). Be aware of the fact that if you are too close to his spawning point he won't spawn at all. The trick is getting close enough for the bear to fill most of the frame (while he's standing broadside is the best bet). The camera seems to add more weight to the frame being filled horizontally (as opposed to vertically) which is why many photos of bears that are standing up are not accepted.

This mission is a nightmare to do. I must have snapped dozens of pictures of Mr. Black, but non of them counted for one reason or the other...

Yup mission is a pain...I had a hell of a time getting close enough and when I did photos didn't work and hed run off...tried and tried and tried. Just said f it and hunted the lake area a lot. Each time id go id try once and then just hunt. One day I didnt even feel like being stealthy, I just ran down the hill straight at him full speed. To my surprise I actually got real close and he ended up running right past me as I just snapped a dozen photos real quick. It worked. Thank god.

I finished mine by approaching the western shore of the lake from the nearby outpost. I crouch walked up to 150m of Mr.Black, then CRAWLED to ~60m after which I just ran at him with my camera spamming photos.
