Choosing weapons
Hi there,

I'm a owner of the base game and all the weapon DLCs. I am not a hunter. So realism aside.

Am I the only one to find it really tedious to look for "good" weapons?

I'm thinking of just keeping my starter with the 243 and 270 because it's really tedious to compare gun stats just to see that the munition is ♥♥♥♥ afterwards. (♥♥♥♥ meaning not suited for what I wanna do)

So I think the GUI could be a bit more clear which classes could be could for (with the munition available).

Are there any best in slot guns for groups like 1-4 and 4-10? Or is everyone just using whatever they feel like?

Regards and thanks in advance

Class 7-9 - .300 rifle (needs Yukon DLC and rifle score to use) .338 rifle without Yukon, lower rifle score needed.
7mm is also decent enough rifle for 5-9 altough it`s kinda thin for upper class range.

Polymer tip bullets.
Might want to carry Rhino or .44 revolver for self defense in bear and wolf country.

Under the '' guides '' section, you'll find nice updated charts with all the ethical ammo and their species .
Check it out .

Newcomers type. In the store, you have a button called "compatibles items". It allow to find which ammo go with which weapon. Animals havent ammo class, some ammo are only compatible with animals of class 9. Check google sheet on internet to know which ammo kill which animal.

I recommend the 7mm Rifle, and the 30-06, they are amazing guns. For other weapons get at least one bow, this game has amazing archery hunting.

I just started out a week ago, I only got weapon pack 1 and 2. I say the 243 is the most used, it can take down full size deer, to animals smaller than the deer. Getting the Poly tip ammo is better than the soft point.

Slightly better is the Solokhin MN1890 over the 243, from Weapons pack 2. It has a slightly better knock down imo, but I tend to go back over to the 243 from time to time and I even will use the soft point ammo in the 243 sometimes.

Now for bigger beast, elk and above, I use Grelck Drilling Gun. Its rifling will take out the bigger game with one good shot. And if something comes charging at me or while walking, I come across a bear, the shotgun part with slugs will take them out.

Those are what I use in my line up since I am new and only have Weapons pack 1 and 2.

Thanks a bunch. Any word on penetration vs stopping power? Do the stats matter? Which ones do you recommend?

Always use polymer tip or hard tip bullets for bigger penetration, much more useful in this game then stopping power, especially if you hit the bone.

Thanks for your answers. Your guns are awesome choices and the game was loads of fun for me today.

The compatible items button should be added to storage and inventory in addition to the store view.

They also need to add some more filtering options for browsing storage and the store. Best would be a pattern-matching text box for PC users. Please abandon the notion of a common PC/Console UI. Since I know they will never do that.

Once you have all the DLC items purchased it becomes very unwieldy to scroll through dozens and dozens of items to find the particular ammo or weapon you you need from storage. They could at the very least create some expandable sub-categories. The current design was acceptable when the base game was releases. But, it has not kept up. Please give us more filtering options.

There are also some options for people who don't want to mess with multiple weapons at the same time (or weapon types in general):
*Crossbow: easy entry point to bow type weapons
* Drilling: combined rifle/shotgun. Rifle part for big game at long range, shotgun for everything else close up
*Big caliber shotguns

-> mainly short range but you only need one weapon and get a ton of free storage space for a tent or a hunting stand. Obviously useles if you prefer long range hunting

My usual loadout is bow/crossbow + bunny pistol (Anderson) + tent. This way I can use the tent to restock ammo, switch gear or to set up a stand anytime.

There are some more weapons with huge class ranges which can be combined for low weight setups:
* Rhino: Classes 4-9. Pretty amazing
* Hudzik (Muzzle Loader): 3-8
* Iwaniec (Garand): 4-8. Same as .270 but better.
* Solokhin (Mosin): 3-7. Punches way above it's class.
* Anderson: 1. Only for small game but super light and so fun and easy to use.

-> Example: Rhino + .243 + Anderson
