There's not even hunting blinds or stands you can carry around unless you purchase them.. Which should come with the base game cause yaknow.. hunting. There's games that were released in 2005 that have more content lmao. The reserves the game come with are fine, however there seems to be wayy less animals on them. The DLC maps are borderline cheap massacre maps given how many animals there are. In the base game there's only a couple weapons & NO vehicles. If you want to drive an ATV around, youll have to spend real money on that. It's hardly worth it in the long run unless you decide youre hooked on the game.
the maps you can easily get hundreds of hours out of is you so choose.
And I still play basic reserves, they are great.
at all.
You will take 50+ hours on each of 2 reserves to fully explore and learn the game. At least.
They are gigantic!
Disclaimer:
I bought all reserves, because each introduces 1-2 new animals (not reskin) and weapon pack with air rifle and goose hunting DLC.
DLC add to the game, are not necessary at all.
I mixed and matched and got most of what I wanted for 30$, including the game, since it's all on sale. Basically, all but a few dlcs. I skipped the silver peaks for now. I added the weapon packs the tripod and a few maps for about 30$ total. Bet you could also customize down for 15-20 for a starter pack with the current sale. Say get one of the big maps, a couple weapon packs, then add maybe the tripod or tents or ducks or geese depending on your personal style.
For instance, some people really want or don't want an atv. I knew I wanted a tripod. Some people bow hunt non-stop, some won't ever touch it. So there's some personal style to decide on for the $ if you're choosing dlcs.
That said, I'm enjoying Lake right now on vanilla
The ATV is only really useful to get around fast to unlock everything. The scare radius on it is pretty big so it isn't that great. When I actually do use it for hunting; I wind up ditching it well out from where I'll actually be hunting.
The "base game" comes with enough content to enjoy, enough gear and reserves to keep you plenty busy.
You can buy ALL of it and have seemingly endless content, if it's the main game you play it's worth it.
You can also just pick up very specific DLCs that interest you. Say, if you want to hunt big game, grab the Africa DLC and the 4th weapons pack that includes some big impressive guns. Decide you want to duck hunt? Pickup the duck hunting DLC. None of them disapoint. (except maybe the Spain reserve, it's a little buggy I hear...)
The only DLC you NEED is the stands one that includes the tripod... many areas in this game you can almost only hunt with the tripod. Any other DLC you could pretend doesn't exist if you don't like that kind of hunting.
Ive read little about every dlc and i choose only weapon packs with that fancy crossbow and bow and one with tents which can serve as a fast travel locations.
Two maps in vanilla game are enough till next sale when maybe maps will be more discounted. ;)
