The rifle post
You can carry any 2 rifles beginning to end
What are your 2 choices
irl I have only owned 30-30 / 30-06 / 22
Being Ohio everyone owns a 12 and 20 gauge
I'd like to know more about how these others perform through out all the maps in your opinions.
Only 1/3 way through Hirsch myself and i base a lot of what i do on my irl hunting experience.
Hunted NM, OH and VA
Never fired a 300 or 338 etc.
So in game what 2 couldn't you part with.
See a lot of folks like the 338 not as much about 300 and 7mm
Thanks

You can actually carry 3 and sometimes 4 rifles depending upon how you load yourself down with other things. The buckshot is virtually useless no matter what the gauge when it comes to downing medium sized or larger animals. Slug penetration isn't all that great at more than 50 meters. Just my opinion on those two types of ammo. When I hunt Hirschfeld what I carry depends upon WHERE in Hirschfeld I'm hunting. To my thinking it takes 4 rifles to hunt all the animal species in Hirschfeld. The .22 for Geese and bunnies, the .243 for fox and Roe deer, the 30.06 or the 7mm for pigs and Red deer then the .338 or the the .300 for Bison. Strip yourself down to those 4 weapons, 1 scope, ammo (watch out for this because while ammo used to be weightless it now adds a tiny bit of weight to your load out) and 1 caller. You'll be just under the 20 kg weight limit. I haven't noticed much difference in stopping power on Moose or Bison between the .338 and the .300 but do know I can send 2-3 rounds downrange while still waiting for the .338 to reload from the 1st shot. Same deal while using the 30.06 instead of the 7mm. Let's face it, you can kill anything with any rifle (one player killed a cape buff with 100 rounds from a .22) but not all rifles will get you past the harvest check so it comes down a matter of choice in where and what you want to legally harvest. If you leave the big bore and home and encounter a 5-Medium buff then that's fine. Back out without disturbing it and he'll probably be in the same place at about the same time tomorrow. Once an animal is on your map it stays on your map until you kill it. No worries.

I carry the 30.06 & 300 Magnum for my main rifles
Old Fox Nov 17, 2020 @ 6:06pm
my last combo was 2 x 20G + .22 rifle also the M1 (30-06 ) and 243 , i use this for geese (duck) and also shoot Lvl 2 to Lvl 8

when i go for serious hunt :steamhappy: i use the M1 + 243 + .22 and the 300 ( or 7 mm )

It depends on the map, and also on whether I will be hunting class 1 or 2. In general I go with the popular combo of 30.06 (M1) and .300. That works very well on Layton, Yukon, and SRP. However for a number of the other maps I swap the 30.06 for the MN1890, because it works for the class 3 animals on those. I add on the .243 when I need to hunt class 2, and often I just pack the .22 pistol for rabbits. If I'm going to hunt birds I will generally go with a specialized loadout lik .22 rifle and shotgun.

I use the 7mm (polymer tips), .243 (polymer tips) and the .22 which can integrity hunt all animals on all reserves. If I had to pick 2 I would swap the 7mm for the 30.06 because it is a semi auto and keep the .243 also.

If restricted to just two weapons then I would go with the .300 and any shotgun. You can take any animal from any reserve with 100% integrity.

Quite a lot depends on which DLCs you have. I have many different loadouts in mind and I change them with map and also style I am going to do. So i.e. for now on SRP map I have
* Muzzleloader + Bow as a base and pistol for turkeys when I do not want to play hide and seek.
* Other combo was Drilling plus some lower class rifle, but Drilling itself covers whole Class range
* 30-30 + 45-70 lever actions
* .223+7mm or .243+ any top power rifle (minus .470 double)

Or you can combine shotgun or revolver for lower classes with top power rifles. Hundzik muzzleloader and shotgun or handgun if you do not need Class 9 is great combo.

Those are combination of the 2 principal weapons and eventually handgun as a sort of backup. When you want to no to go with 5 rifles like nobody does or save weight to take lures and stand with you.

I notice most folks don't mention the 6.5 much and little of the 7mm is it on par with the 06? whats the draw back with those? I have the 6.5 but as I am only in Hirsch haven't needed it much (I have all the DLC I just really like hunt the maps out see every bit) So Bison only heavy hitter i have crossed the 45-70 dropped them quick.
Appreciate the feedback

I think there are still some ardent fans of the 6.5 (it is pretty!), but it seems like the 30.06 has overshadowed it a bit, particularly since the M1 was buffed earlier this year.
The 7mm is really flexible since it goes down to class 4, but I think the single-shot pushes a lot of folks to replace it with the .300. I wish I could say I can always drop an animal with one shot, but I'll admit that the quick follow-up shot from the .300 has payed off for me many times (and in some panic situations with a bison or buffalo charging me, I've used all 4 shots to save my bacon).

I too dbl tap most unless they just drop.. to be honest because i don't want to track after them if i don't have to :)
Thanks

My load out always consists of the scoped Crossbow with all its ammo types and the scoped 12g pump with all its ammo types. Then I just swap out my third weapon which is a scoped rifle and poly ammo best suited for the specific animal I am hunting. All that and callers, binos and scent reducer will all fit in a standard backpack. This way I am set to take anything stupid enough to poke its head out of the woods.

Musket and .22 pistol or rifle, one shoot with musket, 1 kill, take my time, none of this bang, bang, 2 shoots, arm for centre of target, my longest shoot with musket is 380yds,
The Eagle Nov 18, 2020 @ 2:50pm
M1, 300 and a 22 sometimes exchangeable with the 243 depends on what map I am on.
Atech66 Nov 18, 2020 @ 3:11pm
I play like i hunt irl
I always go for shot placement but occasionally an animal bolts etc at the last second and I do my best to track all wounded animals so i do like having that back up quick shot.as it saves a lot of time.
I already carry the crossbow and the M 1 regularly when missions do not require other calibers.
That 300 seems like its pretty handy so that's def going on the rack. Read guys have connected with it at 500+ yards.
Gave me the answers I was looking for.
I hunted most of my life with a 12 gauge here in OH so I enjoy the rifles in game.
few years back they legalized straight brass cartridges 44 357 350 etc. for deer.
Anyways beside the point.. appreciated
I don't want to buy a bunch of rifles i'll never use much in the game.
