why are shotguns so under-powered?
According to the game i am firing 12 gauge buck shot but either the devs dont know what buck shot is or there is a bug where the 12 gauge shotguns are really 20 gauge shotguns and the buck shot is actually bird shot.

i say this because the only kill i ever managed to get had like 20 hits on something i shot once and i had to basically be point blank to get the kill (i swear it was the wadding that killed the deer) and because the shells look too small to be 12 gauge (they look more like 20 gauge)

range - distance of shot ?

using 12ga slugs seem to work fine for me. yeah not as powerful as a RL 12 ga but most of the weapons dont have any real stopping power anyway, but thats ok, makes you aim better.

Shotguns are for close range, you were probably too far away

so typical videogame shotguns? yeah who ever made this game has clearly not actually done any real hunting or shooting of any kind.

Its suppose to be this way, You use a pistol, shotgun, and Bow for closeup, and Rifles for Long Range

Yep

Point blank shots only with the buckshot (avoid as soon as possible), or switch to using the unexplainably lethal birdshot. Slugs are also fairly solid once you get them too. Range is acceptable on both slugs and birdshot, but buckshot is basically useless in every regard.

The problem is that 12G buckshot only has an ingame penetration value of '5', resulting in flesh wounds on anything bigger than a fox. It needs a penetration bump to about 10-15.. which would be more true to real life.

If they ever increase the penetration value of 12G buckshot, they have to fix the integrity bug first. No point in having super lethal buckshot when you get zero integrity. I can use slugs if I want that.

Not exactly true. I get lung shots with 12 gauge and 20 gauge buckshot. They just need to be perfectly broadside so the distance to the lung is minimal. That said, you still won't get a lung shot every time.

I agree that buckshot is very underpowered AND buggy (0% integrity problem). For these reasons, using buckshot is frustrating. Until the devs fix the buckshot, I will stick with birdshot and slugs.

... Wait what? You actually can kill stuff with the birdshot? Everytime I fire, even on a roe deer, I barely feel like I'm inflicting any sort of damage. Things just run away for hours.

But yeah... Shotguns are the weapons in the game that needs to biggest fix. Definitely need to revamp that integrity thingy for buckshot and slugs.

Yeah - I have a good amount of success with birdshot loaded into the semi-automatic shotgun. Not the most realistic thing but it's much more fun and reliable than buckshot for which ever reason. Shot placement is fairly critical on pigs on the like and trying to take larger bucks with it is
risky at best.

I use birdshot for ducks, geese, rabbits and hares only.

Buckshot is way to weak, irl you can easily down a roe or deer sized animal up to 50m with a 12/70 with 7 or 8mm rounds, even 3mm is effective up to 30m.
Integrity on slugs is a joke, normal slugs just punch a slug sized hole into the animal (slow bullet mostly sub sonic) if its not one of these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up home defense expansion slugs, while a .222/.223 or .308 hollow point is doing exit wounds you can easily put a fist in....and ruin big parts of the meat cuz of the impact power. Link contains blood and violence, exit wound of a 30-06 copperhead ;) http://kupferjagdgeschoss.de/Hornady/SST/Ausschuss.jpg
