Scopes for different weapons.
i was wondering if everybody just uses the 1 scope on all rifles, or if its beneficial to take a lower powered scope for the .223 or .22 etc?

I use the 8 power scope for all the rifles it fits on, but I usually limit my shots to 250 yds. The 223 has a pretty flat trajectory and is right on at 250, so I don't see why you would use a lower power, and the 22 is for small game, which is easier for me to see with 8x.

It depends on the terrain ,open maps I'll use a more powerful scope and dense woods I use the lower one.

i often carry the 4-8x and the nightvision 1-4x... very rarely i'll use the nightvision during day but generally i've been using 1 scope on all depending on day/night

i think it can be beneficial to have the lower powered scope, but generally the benefit of carrying other gear instead outweighs it

I use the .22 cal rifle for Geese and the 1x4 scope allows me to swing onto several of them in flight whereas the more powerful scopes don't work as well for me. Other than that I'll use the 4x8 scope and only use the 8x16 for those smaller sized animals (class II and III) at 250 meters or more. I'm more inclined to use the spot and stalk hunting method rather than rely on calls and lures.

Well it depends on how far your average kills are.

If you do not or rarely kill at 150m or futher, you do not need a powerful scope.

Your starting scope is good as is for anything within 150m - 200m give or take.

BUT adding to what I said, get a more powerfull scope either way, perhaps the x4-x8. Keep it in your inventory. You'll thank me later.

Because there WILL come a time where you would scout a lake, and 250m+ across the lake you'll find a nice Herd of animals. Equip your powerfull scope, collect your trophy, remove scope

I'll rotate between 4-8 and 8-16 depending on distance of the shot as previously stated in these replies. It doesn't really affect any shot, you can still hit something from 200m with just iron sights. The scopes just makes it easier to get a good shot at distance

I recently switched back to the 1-4x scope on most guns. Its reticle is much nicer than the other two with their fat blurry lines and huge mildots.

when i'm hunting up close with something like the air rifle i like using the 4x scope, i also like using it sometimes on the .22

I mainly use 1-4 but will use 4-8 for long range shooting. I always have both with me.

Well, I take nearly every available scope compatible with weapon in my backpack with me :-)
Except for that stupid fresnel red dot. And of course I do not take night-vision during daytime
As bolt action are the most versatile in terms of scopes to describe - most of the time I have 1-4x mounted. Then I swap to whatever is suitable for the shot.
When weight saving are important I skip 4-8x and swap between 1-4x and 8-16x. To me it seems that change in magnification 1-4 is the most significant while intermediate step between 4-8x is not that significant thus I can go directly to 8 and continue to 16.
This is known from zoom optics in photography - people usually use borders of the available range.

Fun fact: I use 8-16x on .22lr. Why? Because I use it to shoot ducks and those little dumb-dumbs are so scared that they fly away when sitting in water 60 meters from the bank and they see you. Thus quite often I shoot them from 100 meters and even at 60 m that 16x zoom is beneficial.

Just take the Ascent scope and mount it on 7mm and for example M1. Then look through them. If you can't see the difference in magnification then I must go to doctor... Seriously, I reported it too many times in bugs section and that is the only reason I stick to Hyperion... which is also broken but not that much as Ascent. Too bad, we have not enough reticles in this game and I must use the same one all the time.

Hyperion with everything that can fit it.
