Animal population after ATV
I know that traveling by ATV scares animals off for quite a distance but does exiting the game and then restarting it reset the animal locations to normal after using the ATV?

I would like to know too.

No. The game will resume with the animals being wherever they were when you logged out of the game. If you spooked them to China...they'll be in China. Eventually they will move back onto their "normal" pathways and sometimes you can hurry that process along by resting until the next day or so before you go looking for it (or them). When I use an ATV it's usually just to open outstations and should I see animals along the way I tuck that location info away for another day.

Would be good to know the range at wich they get scared. If its something like 200m. It aint a big deal. Still can use it to get closer to the area you want to then walk for a bit.

Ok, so I went into the same area in yukon vally where i drove the atv to open a stand there and the were black tail and white tail to see and hear, as when I walked up there no deer besides the trails...but seen cyote. Though I do know that one have to be patient for hunting for animals not matter what they seem to be appear anyway again when u wait a little.
But china...seems like a long walk lol

If I am using the ATV to speed up getting somewhere, I often place a marker for my destination and hop off around 200M out. Then just walk from there.

Do you walk or do you crawl?

I was up on Norden icepack and I think I might havee reached up to scratch my nose. and all the deer in Roonachee left the reservation.

You could always put it in park and wait. If they were on a need zone they might come right back in after a bit (depending upon the species 5-10 min is about normal). I don't place a tent within 150 meters of where I want to hunt. Spooked animals will run until they feel safe (roughly 200m). I have seen animals spooked by a gunshot that didn't come back to the need zone. Instead they set up shop just outside of the hunting pressure shown on the map, or simply started using the need zone nearest to them once they stopped running.

So it's a viable strategy.

3 ATV's, 3 tents.

Funnel them into a shooting gallery.

I walk...the only time I crouch or crawl is during an active stalk. I'll try to stick to rocks or grass and avoid cutting through trees and branches.

Truthfully, use that ATV and roll all through a sub-region until you find several need zones. Don't care if you scare animals; they will be back after you rest. Only stop if you ID some really cool tracks. Drop a tent at the need zone and move on. Once I have a few different spots covering a half a day or so of hunting, I'll go back and set up blinds within 30-50 yards from the zones and then re-position my tents a short ways away. Balance my inventory and do any store shopping I need from my tent, then rest until 10 minutes before need zone time. Walk to my blind and call them in. Once that zone is hunted out (3 kills) fast travel to the next zone and repeat.

Tents and blinds is a must have DLC, IMHO.

I’m too new to the game to fully understand need zones then...does it actually make a difference using a tripod versus a blind with respect to pressure?

No the stand/blind/tripod all work the same and let you kill 15 animals and on the 16th the need zone will go away...edit: without a blind/stand/tripod you can kill 3 animals and on the 4th kill the need zone will go away.

Excellent info. Thanks!

To take this a bit further, if you don't have much of an animal population in the areas you most frequent, head further out...that's where they all are.

me and my buddy tested it. animals started running 500 meters away from the ATV.

Thanks. Was looking for that info.

500m is a lot but still. It saves so much walking. For going to a distant area I guess it is worth it. Otherwise better avoid it.
