Crow Call for Turkeys
Not really a big turkey hunter in real life, so am just wondering the reason this game uses a call that sounds like a crow to call turkeys. Do turkeys hate crows to the point of asskickery? Do they chase crow down to have a tea party? Do crows call for aid from turkeys in times of need or trouble? I would like to know the connection between crows and turkeys.

Turkeys try to out-noise any other bird in their area, and will often respond to owls or crows. This is called a "shock gobble" because they sort of do it reflexively to a point.

The following is a bit of information about how turkeys act when they or their offspring are threatened, and yes they will also take the same action against crows.

Hens with poults (poults are baby turkeys) can be extremely aggressive if running is not an option to save their offspring. Some wild turkey hens have been seen chasing after and attacking smaller birds of prey, mainly owls and hawks around 1/3rd to 1/2 of their size when they threaten their chicks. They have even been reported to take flight and pursue their offspring's attacker to make sure they get the message across.

I've also seen trailcam footage on youtube of a large Spring Tom getting attacked by a Great-Horned Owl, except the owl ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the attack approach and got its ass beat in a hysterical fashion. Not exactly surprising though that the turkey got the upper hand to be honest lol. We are after-all talking about a very lightly built 4.5 to 5.7 pound bird of prey attempting to take on a 22 to 28 pound heavy-built upland fowl bird that has a mean streak a mile wide and the ferocity/strength to match said mean streak.

The crow caller is a locator call. It's sole purpose it to get the Turkey to emit a gobble so you know where it is. Only the gobble caller is intended to bring the Turkey to you.

That's exactly what I think.

Yeah, but the problem in the game is that the crow locator call does not work at all, its literally useless. Have tested this out numerous times before putting it away. Tried using it on turkeys that were less than 50m from me, 100m, and 150m. And then also a few random calls in areas where turkeys frequent. Same result each and every time, NOT ONE SINGLE RESPONSE.

It works, they just don´t always respond. The higher the level of the turkey the lower the chance it will respond. Just spam it until they respond, no big deal.

I think its more coincidental, my friend. You should not have to spam a locator call to get a response. The animal's size should have nothing to do with it, as it doesn't IRL as it is when it comes to locator callers. Sure, when you use the mouth caller to bring em in, I can see the larger ones not coming in very easily. But a locator call elicits a territorial or danger response from a tom turkey. And right now, in the game, this does not happen. I have called and called and called with the locator and have gotten 0 responses, even when they are within my line of sight. EW does need to fix this in COTW, as it works as it should in Classic.

I don´t know why it didn´t work, maybe you had some really high level turkeys idk, but I assure you it works.
I have just used it yesterdayand it worked just fine. Sometimes I needed to call 2 or three times to get a response, but it worked.

I hope it was just coincidence in your case.

Works great for me. Use the crow call till a gobbler answers then set up and call him in with the diaphragm caller. Got my first diamond on this map that way.
