Becoming the Alpha (Gold Grizzly Bear with bow shot to heart) help?
Title.

Didn't think this mission would be so painful, but I'm having a rough time. It's hard enough finding a level 6 (preferably 7) or higher bear, then getting in range with this damn bow so the wind doesn't become a factor becomes another ordeal entirely.

I also learned that it seems the Fawn Caller doesn't work on this particular bear. I've stood well within range, downwind, and not had any bear decide to move for me.

I'm wondering what people who completed this mission did. Did you hunt around drink times or did you try a different hour? Did you wait for it to stand up to take your shot or is the arrow time just a tad too slow at range and results in lung hits instead (like it does for me)? How close are you getting/trying to get before taking your shot so the wind doesn't affect the shot?

Spending way too much time on what is the last mission for me, wanted to see what you guys might have as far as tips go.

i also have this open.... as one of a few mission i have open at all, its just hard to hit bears in the heart, but i guess best Option is the Crossbow.
I guess i had around 12 Gold Ones where i missed to heart so far.
But i got a Diamond Bear while doing it :)
I just make a break now and will try mission later maybe at some point we can call Grizzlys in...

Key is that the Bear not be aware of you until around 30 Meters than Aim and pray...

Is the Fawn Caller working for you? I've tried it on at least 3 occasions during Grizzly drink time and they simply do not respond to it. One time I thought it was working but the bears were just traveling from one drink spot to another.

Get the bear to stand up and aim center of CHEST just below the shoulder blades to get heart.

See you tube videos for pictures of shot location (Although this shows the bear SITTING, it's UPRIGHT and shows where to shoot when STANDING on hind legs)

The shot itself isn't particularly hard (though I'm using the crossbow, the dots are a little fat so maybe I'll try a compound, idk), the difficulty I'm having is getting close enough to a gold grizzly bear without spooking it before I'm close enough that wind won't factor into the shot.

What's more annoying is it seems the distressed fawn caller isn't working. I don't know if it's a but SRP brought in or something, but I can't call grizzly bears out of drink zones. Tried it on at least 3 groups now with no positives.

One of the hardest missions in the game IMO.

The only way is to hide somewhere, have the wind in your face so it does not give out your position and then call it in. You may need to call a lot, since the higher the ranking the less they react to calls. As mentioned before, when they stand up aim directly between the arms and you get a perfect heartshot.

I just tracked one for some time, low and slow, got close he ran but came back, stood up and i was able to plant one, But this was after near fifty attempts.

Do you recall whether you used the crossbow or whether you found it easier with the 3-pin sight on a compound?

Also where did you usually go to to check for high level bears? Drink zones along the bottom and right side of the river?

I'm just wondering if there are any other areas I haven't bothered to check that might be worthwhile.

Yeah I've been doing that and still not having luck. I have the perk that lets me see what the animals' status is and at no point do they even consider traveling.

Not sure if i would say its one of the hardest, for me the hardest is things like jackrabbits mostly because its hard to see where you aim on them in many situations or maybe its just me needing glasses. Rabbits are also extremely sensitive to sounds, not easy to get a close shot.

I will try that bow shot as soon as i get a better bow, it will have to be when it stands up, that's def your best shot of nailing it with a bow.

As far as I know there's no mission that requires a vital hit on any small game, jackrabbits included, let alone with a short range weapon like a bow.

I used a bow, I don't think the crossbow counts on this one.
I look for them near water at dawn and dusk, then in the trees during the day, this is where I seem to find the biggest ones, just resting in the trees listening for intruders. Stealth wins. :)

Crossbow counts. Setting up the shot is more of a problem than actually knowing where to shoot.

OH and I use the single pin.

i know this thread is like 8mnths old, but I'm still struggling with this one. 20hrs just on this mission, about 50 grizzlies, only 5 of which have been gold. Just can't get a heart shot.

The smaller females I'm planting heart shots on, just not the bears that count.

Getting really frustrated and starting to not want to play that map anymore.
