Why is the .30-06 so popular?
When I started with COTW after the last summer sale, everyone was talking about the mosin. Best weapon, no one left their home without one (and it took me far too long to figure out that "solokhin mn+somenumber" is that mosin).

Now after scoring 2.0, everyone loves the .30-06. But I can't figure out why. As you may have noticed, I have no clue about weapons. I only go by classes covered and number of rounds.

Maybe because .30-06 is most powerful for the class for it is available. To be honest, I don't really like it that much. I don't like the shoot sound of it. I prefer the sound of .40-75, 7mm and M1.

I can easily shoot up to 300M without much sway or drop-off (i have the range perk) and It has the power to take down most animals in one shot. Reload is quick with a decent mag size too.

In short, more shots can be put down range accurately, if needed.

I read it got even better now wth 2.0 because of the whitetail deer integrity buff

the new best gun in the game is the 7mm in terms of integrity. i believe that many players like the 30-06 because it comes close to the performance of the 7mm but lets you take fast follow up shots. you cant hunt buffalo with it though

People like the 30-06 and the 7mm because, in my observation, the majority of people playing this game like to see how far away from themselves they can drop an animal. I understand the attraction of that but for myself I find long shots too easy and the real challenge of the game is to see if I can get close enough to use the bow or my current favorite rifle, the .45-70.

Another reason is because it's one of the most popular calibers in real life. Just can't wait for that .308..

the .30-06 is popular because it is a work horse. Need to shoot 300+ yards? it has you covered. Need to drop a bear 50 yards away? It has you covered! The stopping power on this weapon is insane, allowing me to drop-shot everything from rabbits to grizzly bear and moose. Keep in mind the .30-06 is actually a larger version of the .270, since the .270 is just a necked-down .30-06. I want there to be more variation with the loads you can put in it, different grain size, etc. I use a .308 in real life personally, and i cant wait for a good .308 to be added :D

I prefer the M1 over the 30.06, same power and range and it weighs one less pound. It has a nasty recoil but I don't have issues with follow up shots.

I have issues with follow shots
Maybe gotta get used to it

It's a combination of Scoring 2.0 making the .30-06 more versatile in what it can take with Integrity, and it being one of the most popular or familiar hunting calibers in the US. Losing the ability to take Coyote and Jackal really hurt the Mosin's versatility. Couple that with Parque Fernando being the only map with 2 Class 3s on it, it comes down to overall stopping power. Something the Mosin lacks at the higher end of it's scale.

The 30-06 was first rifle that allowed me to get double lung shots at 200m+ I think, on larger animals.

I have noticed if you hold down shift (holding breath) through the shot then your recoil is huge with the M1. Let go of shift as soon as you shoot and you'll see the gun recoil closer to the original shot. Easier for follow up, especially if you have the recoil management perk.
