Is there any difference between 12 cal. birdshot and 20 cal. birdshot and steel birdshot?

The lower gauge numbers have more pellets and higher power. While none of the shotguns have bad birdshot (all are quite decent at a minimum actually) the best two are 10 gauge and 20 gauge. The 10 gauge because it hits like a truck, and the 20 gauge because it seems to have one of the tighter spreads of all the shotguns.

20 guage works pretty well, you can also get a semi-automatic shotgun with 3 shells in it. Only way to do better is to unlock the pump 12 guage for ammo capacity. As florble says though, the 10 guage hits hard. I'ts lever action and holds 3 shots.

Any proofs? I've tested 12 and 20 cals. with birdshots on shooting range and didn't see difference. Lesion area at 50 meters are the same and number of pellets looks the same too

in game birdshot is identical between all gauges.

As long as I'm able to bring down fully-grown turkeys at 40m with a tiny .410 from the Colt, I'm pretty sure the game mechanic gives a f**k for the gauge of the birdshot shells...

pretty simple, turkey is class 1 all birdshot is class 1, it's based on the classes.

That's what I mean - it doesn't fit any realism but in terms of "game reality" it works. Which must not be a bad thing over all: If you don't care it makes live a lot easier - for example you can save a lot of carrying capacity when the tiny Colt can do the same as a bulky 10GA thunderstick.

stupid to compare a game to real life. it's about game balance, they give you options. you can also carry 4 rifles, and 999 rounds of ammo for each one in your pack, along with 6 lures and binocs, oh if you use the backpack. My hunter carries all of that in his pockets, i've never bought the packs.

regarding to difference of 20GA normal bird shot and steel bird shot, devs told in Q&A below.

Q: What is the difference between 20GA steel-birdshot and normal birdshot? Are there just for roll playing?

A: Raunaq - Game Designer: "There are actually slight differences that emulate their difference in real life. The difference is in drag (higher coefficient for the steel shot) & projectile mass (higher for the pellets in lead birdshot), and results in ever-so-slight deviances in damage at ranges above 50m, which is a necessary sacrifice for the good of the environment. In short, they’re mostly for role-playing, but it’s not just for show."

I have no idea about 12GA.

Thank you very much! I definitely wanted to hear something like this.
Now I guess there is difference between 12 and 20, even 20 leadshot and 20 steelshot have inequality.
