Lost all SP data after playing MP
Hi Hunters,

I have a bit of a problem here.

Yesterday I wanted to give the community challenge a try so I started a MP match for the very first time. I shot a deer with a single shot and called it a day.

Today I was ready for some hunting and I clicked continue to go on with my SP profile. For some reason, all my SP progress is now gone because the MP stats (level 1 obviously) have been carried over to my SP profile.

Is this a bug? Can I fix this issue? Please don't tell me all my hard work is gone now. I'm a bit worried here. :steamsad:

Multiplayer uses same profile as single player. Did you press New Game by accident before starting multiplayer?

No, I did not press new game. I started the game and pressed continue, like I always do.

For the MP, I just clicked Multiplayer and went from there. I certainly did not choose to create a new game.

EDIT

I don't know if this is related, a bug or it's supposed to be like this, but now I also have the musk deer scent in my inventory without owning the Taiga DLC???

EDIT 2

I checked it again to make sure, but the game really carried over the MP stats to my SP profile. Yesterday I shot 1 roe deer in the MP game and today when I check my hunting history in SP, all that shows up is that one roe deer with the date stamp of yesterday.

Everything from my SP profile is gone: Mission progress, level, money, weapons, history etc.

I don't own the Taiga DLC and I got the musk deer scent when I started the game, I think everyone gets it but not sure why

Well at least that mystery is solved then.

Now to get back my profile... although I have a feeling I'm screwed here.

First of all make sure steam cloud is turned off. Steam/settings/cloud. This cloud saving is to insure you can play on any machine and still get to your latest save.(or only save) In your case it could have completely screwed you.
Local saved game should be at C:/users/username/documents/avalanche studios/ thehunter call of the wild/ saves

I never used the Steam cloud. I knew there was trouble with it, so I immediately turned it off when I bought the game in February. Never used it once for this game.

Did you check for a local save? Really shouldn't need to check but that's why I always make backups before trying something new. I realize that's not very helpful.
As long as Continue is still an option then you have a saved game file. Have you restarted computer and tried again?

Yes I did. But there isn't much to see there other than modified files (16 December 2017). Original date of creation = 27 July 2017. Before that I played up to level 60, but made a new profile in July 'cause I built a new computer.

Unfortunatly I never made a backup so yeah, unless I do a rollback (not gonna do that because reasons) I'm screwed. I just have to accept I lost all my progress, but to be honest: this is unacceptable. Yeah... I'm pretty ticked off right now.

In the meantime I also found out I am not the only one. There even is a dedicated bug thread for this problem: http://steamcommunity.com/app/518790/discussions/5/133259227516123011/

If only I would have known... then I would have made backups and NEVER started that MP session. It's not like I play MP anyway. It was just to participate in the community challenge. Now I end up with nothing but frustration. We're talking 150+ hours of gameplay lost.

I'm not sure a roll back would even help. It generally rolls back installs and such but leaves data files alone. I seriously feel your pain.

If you set your Backup and Restore to back up every week, the you would be able to retrieve the save file from backup. It might be a week or so old, but better than losing everything.

I know, but I never use the Windows backup. If I want to backup something, I do it manually and I did not backup the COTW files, so everything is lost. I wish I never started that MP session. 150 hours gone in 30 minutes and for what?!

I had the Musk Scent as a default install, bought the Tent and quad and had no problems. A day or so later I bought the Taiga DLC and now my Musk Scent is gone??? I cannot see the free one in the store, my inventory or my ruck sack.

Look I know it is frustrating to lose files, but maybe its time to start using Backup & Restore. At least next time, maybe another game, or hardware failure, and you will be prepared.

Can you right click your save file and try restore to previous version from dropdown menu?
I have that option but am not going to try it to find out.

Nope. Tried that as well.

But thanks for thinking along here. It slightly eases the pain.... well, not really but you know what I mean.
