Problems in Layton with Roosevelt Elks
I just played a while in the northern parts of Layton. It was around 9am game time and not much was out there. I saw a lone male elk and shot it with my Driller (9.3 cal) from about 70 meters. It was a good hit (I checked profile). No blood spot, very few tracks (2 sets), but no elk?

Later, at a different location, I saw about 4 or 5 female elks. I shot one (again check profile for hit). No blood spot or even tracks of any of the 4 or 5 elks.

This is a new bug for me. I'm not sure why blood and tracks are not showing up.

Sadly, it's not a new bug for LL. It's been around for a very long time. About all U can do mechanically is run the "verify integrity of local files" program and see if the bug goes away. When you run into the problem in the game you can head out in the direction the animal took off in and hope you can stumble on it (assuming your map says it's dead). I found a bull moose roughly 150 meters from where I'd hit it by following the tracks of the 3 cows he was with. Not one track from the bull, just the cows and no blood not even where he'd dropped dead. This happened after the last patch so it's a recent example but about a year ago I had a herd of 11 Whitetails run past me at less than 40 meters in an open field of 6 inch high grass and not one track was left by any of them.

Yeah, Roosevelt Elks in Layton are bugged as ♥♥♥♥. It's been that way as long as I've had this game.

Thanks for the replies. When you encounter bugs, you first blame yourself thinking you might have done something wrong. It's nice to see I'm not (completely) crazy.
I feel like they should just devote a whole year to the OG animals on Layton, Hirsch, and Medved. Remodel the Blacktail and Whitetail so they are actually realistic, revamp the first TRU-RACS on the Elkd and BT/WT, remodel the bears, give the boars TRU-TUSK the Euro Bison TRU-HORN, the Bears TRU-SKULL so the larger ones have physically wider/longer skulls etc.. In fact I'd be fine with them just taking a whole year to giving everything TRU-RACS and revamping the OG animal models to actually look up to par.

There's no money in fixing bugs. They will put most of their effort in releasing new content or new versions.

this is the random tracking bug that's been posted about for years in the bug forums. it can happen with all animals on all maps. seems more common with elk though lately. hopefully they'll find the cause and get it fixed some day.

The "High-Tech Hunting Pack" Brightsight for bows makes it worthwhile. I can't imagine hunting with a bow and not having that range-finder sight.

The sales are nice. I'm off to gift my nephew the base game. He's got the graphics horsepower to run the game. I'm sure his dad (my brother) will want to play as well.

"Some bow purists will probably say that it's too easy."

Who cares. The great thing about COTW is that you can play any which way you want. I personally obsess with a low miss rate (restarted, currently level 16, 1 miss due to bug).

I own the ATV DLC, but don't use it. Just walking around and exploring is satisfying, but a good quick kill on a harvest is sweet.
