.50 cal riffle not for class 9?
I recently got the .50 caplock riffle and I love it, but I can't figure out why it wouldn't pass the check for class 9 animals. It has as much penetration as a 7mm polymer bullet but twice the expansion. Can someone please explain why this is?

I understand it is class 4-8, which is a nice range, but if any gun seems like it would be meant more for 9 it seems it would be this one.

Why can I shoot a blacktail from 50m with the 7,62x54R and it gets stuck in the shoulder blade? As someone in another thread has said, calibers in the game have nothing to with real life.
And before anyone says .50 minié is not the same as .50 BMG, I am sure everyone is fully aware of that, yet they almost completely eradicated the american buffalo with black powder guns. .45-70 is also a black powder cartridge.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

What's stopping you from using it anyway? With well-placed shots, some of the "underclassed" weapons can be just as effective as a weapon designated for that class of animal.

never tried underpowered weapons, unless by accident. Do they qualify for the harvest checks? shooting a moose with a .223 should fail, you'd think anyway.

Isn't that what Scoring 2.0 is about? Because there used to be no minimum caliber, which is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumb. Now you have to actually use at least a kind of appropriate gun.

Nothing other than the fact that it lowers the trophy score, which only matters because I understand that a kill has to pass all checks to be a diamond, or is that wrong?

Actually, the .50 kills buffalo and grizzly bears far better than the .300 mag ever did for me, yet the .300 passes the check for class 9 and the .50 doesn't.

Autobot's answer was probably the most accurate I imagine.

its the same thing like slugs not for class 9... its a game we need some parameters so im okay with it... BUT you can hunt with all weapons all animals just the score will not be perfect :)

Because the game penalizes you on points for using the wrong ammunition type on a certain class, that's why

Yeah, bears seem to have pecs and sternum made from reinforced rebar or something. Recently hit a black bear from like 13m right in the chest with a roundball. Got stuck right before the heart. Same with a 12g slug from about 25m. And once I shot a black bear in the neck with the .338 and right at that spot its neck vertebrae had vanished, so it was only a flesh wound instead of an instant drop.

I thought that not getting integrity on the kill not only decreases trophy rating but also decreases your XP and money gain as well? If so that's kinda bad for farming.

you guys should try the 70 pound bow with 600 grain arrows, those things are so OP, not to mention how damn good the high tech dlc bow scope is with it. I once shot a charging buffalo with one in the face and it went all the way through to it's intestines and insta killed it, haha. Even grizzly bear only get a couple steps away from a good lung shot.

Bows are for people who don't like jump-dodging buffalo.

:)

I always die to buffalo forgetting I am crouching while trying to avoid them, this jump-dodge thing is too elite of skill for me, lol
