If they see you, they are going to bolt.
Thanks.
Don't run, hunt near water, look far ahead with your binoculars while hunting.
for example if you want to kill Iberian wolves you can run after them following the trails (you'll need 3 points in tracking to see tracks far ahead)
and after a while , if terrain permits, you'll see the wolf/wolves trotting in the distance enough so you can take a shot. If you miss the shot they might sprint like a rocket, and you'll just have to run some more.
If you just need some kills/harvests without much concern to score it's the fast way to do it.
Sneaking up on them is much harder and will likely only work if they are sleeping. Otherwise since they move around so much, if you Crouch (slow or fast), or Walk, you'll likely never catch them, and the howlings will just give you the wrong direction. As i believe the howling happens in 1 place, and if the wolves move away after that, you'll still hear the howling in 1 position, while they might be long gone.
They are extremely cautious and at the least bit of sound they might run off. If wind is against you they'll run off too.
One of the plus of running around is that you might find a lot of need zones in a short amount of time. which you can use for later, with tripods and stuff, assuming terrain permits.
Actually, the easiest way to photograph (under 50 meters, without bushes) a wolf, is to have a wolf pack attack you and photo while they're on top of you. Same with bow.
Quoted for truth. Sprint hunting became now a much more legit tactic in the last patches, when the introduced the "nervous" system.
You just can't do it well on some maps like Hirschfelden because your view is too obstructed with trees and you can't see far enough ahead.
Also the last hint of yours is spot on, that's how I did my wolf photo and close kill missions. When wolves are hunting they are more eager to attack you and get close instead of running away (based on my experience which may have been coincidence though).
They even notice you when you prone move up to 150m away. Guess that's realistic.
