Warning call - If I hear one is it basically a sign that it'll be hard to find that animal as it knows I'm there?

It's a sign that you should go cover or it ll run away.

I think of it more like "Hey dipstick, you're going the wrong way, I'm over here." You know. THAT kind of warning.

Animals usually give a warning call if they smell you. Try and stay downwind from anything you are hunting. It does not mean they are going to be harder to find, but they will not continue to travel in your direction if they sense you; they will become alert and go the other way. I expect this is also the case if they hear you.

If they see you, they are going to bolt.

It should also be noted that higher lvl animals like a high gold or diamond won't even give off warning calls alot of the times.

My problem is I don't know where the animals are until they give a warning call often. I'm trying to hunt down blacktails for a quest. I'm level 8.

If you hunt around the lakes in the morning 530 to about 800 you should find blacktails.

If you have the other map downloads do the main missions in the yukon, Parque Fernando, Cuatro Salinas and Savannah first. Those are easy missions and will give you lots of cash and xp. I started over 5 days ago and have completed the main missions in the first 3 of those maps and reached level 28 and over 200,000 credits. I also did the stone rings side mission in Parque Fernando to get the free 338.

Fair warning....the mission to find tracks of x number of blacktails is followed by one to harvest x number of them followed by one to harvest a male, then still another one to harvest 2 males with weights over x Kg. Just something to think about before you pull the trigger.

Don't run, hunt near water, look far ahead with your binoculars while hunting.

ironically some animal are easier to kill if you run.

for example if you want to kill Iberian wolves you can run after them following the trails (you'll need 3 points in tracking to see tracks far ahead)

and after a while , if terrain permits, you'll see the wolf/wolves trotting in the distance enough so you can take a shot. If you miss the shot they might sprint like a rocket, and you'll just have to run some more.

If you just need some kills/harvests without much concern to score it's the fast way to do it.

Sneaking up on them is much harder and will likely only work if they are sleeping. Otherwise since they move around so much, if you Crouch (slow or fast), or Walk, you'll likely never catch them, and the howlings will just give you the wrong direction. As i believe the howling happens in 1 place, and if the wolves move away after that, you'll still hear the howling in 1 position, while they might be long gone.

They are extremely cautious and at the least bit of sound they might run off. If wind is against you they'll run off too.

One of the plus of running around is that you might find a lot of need zones in a short amount of time. which you can use for later, with tripods and stuff, assuming terrain permits.

Actually, the easiest way to photograph (under 50 meters, without bushes) a wolf, is to have a wolf pack attack you and photo while they're on top of you. Same with bow.

Quoted for truth. Sprint hunting became now a much more legit tactic in the last patches, when the introduced the "nervous" system.

You just can't do it well on some maps like Hirschfelden because your view is too obstructed with trees and you can't see far enough ahead.

Also the last hint of yours is spot on, that's how I did my wolf photo and close kill missions. When wolves are hunting they are more eager to attack you and get close instead of running away (based on my experience which may have been coincidence though).

They even notice you when you prone move up to 150m away. Guess that's realistic.
