Damn the muzzle loader is one effective gun.
I mean, sure, shooting anything beyond 100m is kind of a gamble but within range... It does a hell of a lot of damage.

Very fun to use too. I do not regret buying this DLC one bit.

What do you guys think?

Animal ai is garbage too. One moment they are in full flight and as soon as you spot them they stop, like paid actor's. Then they start seasawing on one spot when on a rock.

What do you mean loosing all data?

Also, it would be great if you gave your input on the DLC itself. I don't want this thread to get derailed into another "This game sucks" circlejerk.

I think the muzzleloader is overpovered. All the rifles have effective range to 150 meters, but muzzleloader have 200 meters. Shoot and harvest. Little unrealistic.

The minee bullet should be reduced to 150 tbh. But, the normal one has a 100m effective range and I think that's fair.

I think that he means that some players are losing all the progress. Better to save manually the save folder, but that shouldn't be the player's job to take care of messing with the folders to keep the progress save.

Always good to backup your save file manually. You cannot always trust steamcloud to do that job for you. One hiccup from the steam servers and bam you just lost everything.

Anyway, back to topic. :)

If you like the game, save your progress. I've seen too many people that had to start from the beggining. I personally use the CotwBacker application created by genius man from these forums. The devs confirmed that there is a save problem and I would like to keep my progress fair ;)

Back to the topic though, I agree that .50 bullet is better. I like the challenge, minee bullet is too strong now.

I mean, it sure is very powerful indeed no matter the ammunition. But, since it has a fairly poor accuracy and reloads slowly. You still need to get a very good shot. You can't just run around shooting everything that moves with it. This is what I enjoy the most.

Yeah, I like to use it, there is no follow up shoot, so when I aim at Brown Bear and hellish smooke cover my head, I wonder if I hit the nails ;)

I must admit that the reload animation is good. Also if the broken textures on the rifles will be fixed I'm sure the textures on that rifle will look better.

Did you try the iron sights? I think it is little alligned to the left.

Yeah, that moment when you are blinded by the smoke is very nice. I love that.

I don't know about the sight. It feels fine to me. The gun is on the lower spectrum of accuracy. So it might just be the bullet doing it's thing.

NVM, I just seen what you mean. It is indeed slightly misaligned.

I wonder though... Muzzleloader is allowed for class 3-8. And for example the Dying Grelck rifle is allowed for class 5-9... but no way it performs bad. I can drop the moose with muzzleloader on spot, but with Grelck it hardly penetrates moose's one lung with close distance. I think that is pretty unbalanced now.

Perhaps try to use the soft points? If you get a side shot it should drop pretty fast if you hit a vital. Polymer got almost no expansion at all. I think this might be why the muzzleloader perform better since both it's ammunition got good expansion.

I think you might get better results with the soft ones. Assuming you are close enough.

A lot of players are bitter that they lost a lot of data/back ups/trophy lodges recently, and often for good reason. I don't trust steam, so I do manual backups. It's a very easy process, requires very little hard drive space and spares you a lot of grief.

As far as the muzzle loader...I think its thrilling, especially when taking out bison. But, nothing like a crossbow bolt dropping a bison dead cold in its tracks :) But yea, that weapons pack is so worth it. I don't think its over-powered. I''ve seen those rounds, they are huge metal slugs.

Or a point blank heart shot on a bear with that crossbow. My first kill in this game. Will not try that again on purpose. Got scary.

It is a good chunk of lead. To put it in perspective.

.50 cal minie ball = .48 - .49" diameter, 360 grain weight
.50 call round ball = .48 - .49" diameter, 175 grain weight
30-06 = .308 diameter, 165 grain weight
.300 = .308 diameter, 180 grain weight

just guessing the game is going of the most common sold rounds.

Agree with ya'll though, the .50 cal is hella fun to shoot.

I don't think it's over powered, .50 cal makes a bigger hole, more damage, quicker death if they don't drop on the spot.

The muzzle loader might almost be my new favorite! It would be cool if they had a flintlock, maybe where it would spook the animal just a fraction of a second before it went off. That would be interesting.
