Most probably overshot. At close range, you need to aim lower
This task is difficulty, but still achievable.
1. Make sure yourself is well covered and the visibility is very low (a white line or even lower, a gray line). Because you need to use a bow to shoot, this means you'll have to hide yourself in some bushes.
2. Never attempt this quest without a Jackrabbit caller.
3. Carefully choose the place to ambush the fox. This might be the most important to hunt a fox with bow. Make sure where you hide have good view. E.g, ascending hillside is an ideal place. Use some objects around, such as trees or rocks or grasses with different color to know the range. Measuring range is a must job in bow shooting, finding some ranges in advance can help you to skip this step while the fox is approaching and directly take action to shoot.
4. Be patient, very, very patient. Fox is extreme sensitive and of good eyesight. Use Jackrabbit caller every 30+ seconds, don't call too frequently, or the fox is gonna spooked. Observe, they won't rush to you directly, they'll wander in the grasses, while you find them stop 30+m away, use caller once again, and wait.
300GR arrow is enough. Fox is fragile, even a non-fatal hit on one leg will make it bleed to death eventually. After you hit it, just follow the tracks, trust yourself, you'll make it.
this one is basically what i have done last week.
but before that i travel across the region to find fox's drink or rest area.
after i find it im searching for good cover then do like what james said.
the fox got shot on the head... eventho i aim at it's chest lol
i dont know why. i am in hte west area of spreeberg (so inside the quest area).
the bos is not to strong (up to 60 was in the quest).
so what do i do wrong? or are only male foxes legit? the last was female.
I don't recall if the mission area matched the region in the game exactly. You should get an orange overlay on your map when you select the mission (but you normally don't need to select the mission for it to be active). If you were in the orange area, it might be a bug. Might also matter where you are when you harvest the animal, e.g. if it ran out of the area and died outside of it.
"(Don't wait for him to appear to raise the bow as he may key in on the movement and flee)."
I don't think the "vision" of the animals is that sophisticated. I'd say they simply register your visibility, which depends on your posture, your location and actual forward movement in the world. So you could lie openly on a big stone, rotate around your axis and raise and lower your weapon to your hearts desire without an animal registering that. (Hence also the earlier tip to get on a stone to have a better vantage point.)
into bow hunting range after half a hour and ...... YOU MISS it!
*My advice ((aim low)).
Aim about a foxes torso lower than you think you need. About 5-10 inches low...
The foxes are small and you need to aim low to hit anything imo
with those arrows at those ranges (i.e. less than 30-40m)
that is why your hitting them in the head or over shooting, aim low lads
Do invest the 3,000 in scent cover.
And always be in negative cover during their approach.
Get lucky and have a open area for the foxes to approach from if you can help it, glhh
Its an option.anyways.
I believe has to be a 60 lb bow not crossbow? Been awhile
maybe its a but.
i will try it in another area.
unfortuantely the rangefinde is not compatible with the alexander bow....or i am to stupid ;)
i use the antii scent spray, try to cover as much as possible, and was very upset at the first fox, that i couldnt aim while lying on the ground and he escaped. ;)
. once i had a fox coming and a herd of wisents came by and chased it away...
It could be that you have to use one of the non-DLC bows for it to register. If you are in the western part, it is easier because the foliage is not so thick. Also, if you have a tripod stand or a tree stand, and can call it in, that might help.
