0 integrity for 270 on deer makes no sense.
I have hunted ever since I was 10 years old mainly for whitetail deer, you know what caliber I saw used to most? .308/30-06 you definitely don't need a gun that big but the priority is to kill the deer as quickly as possible .270 is probably the next most common caliber and my personal choice I understand the point of the integrity bonus but the 270 should not be exempt from it.

I agree with you 100% the weapon used should not be factored into the trophy rating. Instead Shot placement should be replaced. How big the Trophy (Antlers/skull/etc), Where you shoot the animal, and how fast it dies should be the only factors.

Consec. Harvest shoudl not be a factor either - only a bonus that applies to cash reward.

I hate consecutive harvest as it's cost me trophy score many many times. In game bullets don't tend to behave like rounds I've seen and used irl. I have had tons of issues with lead tipped bullets not expanding but polymer tipped bullets work perfectly. The result is the lead tipped ones penetrating much further but doing less damage. Polymer tipped I could put my index, middle, and ring fingers in the exit wound up to my palm. Oh and I like the .30-06 for my hunting because it's been around over a century and performs beautifully.

Hey just figured I would throw my 2 cents in on this conversation as I have been a competition shooter and load my own ammo for the past 10 years and hunted since i was a kid. Just for the people who dont understand ballistics im going to explain. 30-06 is the MOST over rated cartridge that hunters use. Same bullet/ballistics as a .308 yet packs much more recoil all for a couple hundered FPS. .308 is more effective for hunting as long as you use the correct ammo. Does it do the job? Sure. Is it effecient? Not even a little. Now as I am expecting most people dont agree. Thats fine. Doesnt mean its wrong.

.270 is good for amateur hunters for the sole reason it is cheap and effective. Is it the most effecient. No. Good to learn on though.

Personally I find that .308 is a touch more then is needed to kill a deer/hog/boar here in Texas but its effecient enough and does enough damage

My personal choice for deer/hog/boar is somewhere between 6.5mm/7mm cartridges(non magnum). 3 that come to my mind are my personal favorite 7mm-08(necked down 308 case made for a 7mm bullet) .260 Remington(again .308 case necked down for 6.5mm bullet) and a fairly new cartridge called 6.5 Creedmore which is a very nice round.

Just my opinions. So flame away.

ty great info, i appreciate that.
i dont hunt or even shoot myself, but i can see the forums are riddled with unknowable ppl, sprouting lots of nonsense.
so its good to hear something form a real shooter.
btw, i am curious whats your overall impression of this game? i sure do like it.

Yeah .308 is better for sure but back when I was looking for a heavier rifle .308 ammo was hard to find in my area so I went with a 30-06

I'm not going to flame anyone, it's really all about preference. I went 30-06 because that's the dies I had available with my reloading setup. It's only 17 pounds of recoil. The .300 win mag I used in 1000 yd competition has much nastier recoil at around 33 pounds. I know plenty of people that run .270, .308, and 30-30. They all get the job done.
