There may well be 8 round clips out there, but if you watch a few movies with garands in them, they have five round clips...Saving Private Ryan springs to mind, if I recall (Sorry for the pun...).

There was 8 in the service that was standard meaning every soldier was give the same rifle same capacity the only thing other thing soldier back then and today have in common is sometimes lack of supplies would be say when we first went back to middle east first boots on ground back the food there was limited you would have to eat condiments as meals.

Gotta keep in mind military everything set to a standard pretty much last thing they want is a faulty weapon to a soldier who can't use it. Food is always seems low on the military list things to give soldiers even in WW1 & WW2, Now prior to WW1 and we have civil war especially in south weapons were unreliable some would blow up upon shooting you due poor manufacture.

Lastly just because you see it in show, or movie don't make it accurate they prob used civilian weapons because they couldn't get a hold the soldier version. Though to be honest those rifles are not common anymore so they were lucky get one at all.

M1 Garants were mass produced.
It's quite easy to get them like every other stand issued rifle of the industrial era. Where I live they cost about 2000€.

My Father bought one in the 80's for even less (also with a civilian 5 round clip).

I was referring to the original not the reproduction, there are reproduction of the Thompson after WW2 most were damaged were destroyed some were given to license dealers who could only sell the license people.
You can buy a m4 civilian version even today that doesn't make it a military weapon. Though with some modification you can turn it into a full auto the Thompson or m4 civilian style. The numbers of original M1 Garand miltary style 8 clip I have found is small there could be more in private collection that no one knows about they made like 6 million for the WW2 but like I said most were destroyed just like the tanks, jeeps if the military has no purpose to be able reuse it somehow they will destroy it upon there regulations most the actual tanks were striped down and reused the parts for newer tanks. The reproduction from for the M1 was made by Springfield back in the 70s the gun passed the us ordance inspection and everything but the material was inferior to one mass produced for the military lol

In the US, you are only allowed 5 rounds in the magazine for hunting purposes. It may depend by state you are in.

They actually make 2 round clips for National Highpower Match at Camp Perry for the M1.

you read too much wikipedia,

M1's were produced until the late 50's when the M14 replaced it. They weren't destroyed after WW2, the military branches reissued them. they were widely used in the Korean war and Vietnam. My great uncle carried one in the Construction Brigade during his 2 tours into Vietnam. has a number of pictures with his squad and that rifle. When he retired he finagled some deal to keep it. They welded the barrel shut at the end where the bolt enters, it's hanging above their couch on the wall with some other of his memorabilia and those photos.

Why did it get destroyed? A bit unfortunate.

My Father's Garand is an original.

I also highly doubt that most were destoyed after WWII considering that it was still used during the Indochina Wars.

The bulk of Vietnam they used M-16 aside from flamethrowers which were mandatory to get people dug in also why would did they weld it shut? back then solders brought home what is called spoils of war including there own weapons even in WW2 they did this though I personally wouldn't want anything nazi related even as a trophy.

Then its a reproduction if it hold only 5 rounds. Soldiers were only give rifles with a clip of 8 rounds in WW2 all others are a reproduction, btw reproduction and fake are two different things a reproduction can be fired, and fake will do serious damage or kill you if you use it to fire a round out of and the numbers of reproductions are high its why they are dirt cheap.

Lastly M14 was the soldiers weapon of Indochina wars though to be honest US has always had multiple weapons the rifle standard was the M14 which was replaced by in 60s the M16 and it was replaced by the

The French Union were using M1's. The VC were still using them in the 60's and 70's.

VC? And for the french haven't been known for the best military longest time and thats like comparing apples to oranges China or the Russians would be closer choice in the late 70s the infantry man would be using m-16 though they wont the best weapon to be honest. Which is why those were phased out fast the newer replacement would be a smaller length barrel. More suited to clearing buildings, I will say the famas weapon is awsome to shoot.

Just stating facts, man. Put your jingoism back in your pants.

The thread is about why the ingame garand has a five round clip.
