The .338 Rangemaster is a good gun to use for moose. If not that, the 7mm Regent rifle is pretty good as well. You could use a .243 or a .270 but you'd have to place your shots just right. I'd recommend saving up your money and getting the .338. I have it myself and I love it

Well 338, 7mm, the big pistol, and shotgun with slug will drop moose, reedeer and elk quickly. Little more tricky with Bison (those are one tuff animal) Though with a well placed shot you can drop anything in this game with any weapon.

The key is were your bullet hits. Heart, spine and lungs are always good winners. If the animal comes right at you, or a standing bear, shoot the heart. From the side go for lungs. And if it's facing you from the rear, try to hit the spine.

And a little tip. Decide what you will be hunting for before starting. Bring along the guns suited best for the animals you are targeting. It will give you the best integrity using the right weapon for right animal. In other words more points, and bigger chance to hit that Diamond.

I like to use the 7mm because i can use it for more animals than only the moose. It works pretty good.

Hey @Its me mario !

Without sounding like a knob head, (which I will now fail at) there really is no "best" weapon for hunting anything in the game. There is only wrong weapons. For a moose, there is NO wrong weapon to hunt it with as you can get 100% integraty with any weapon if you are good enough with that weapon. If you are hunting something like a red for then 90% of the weapons will tear it in half and be the wrong weapon.

Back to your question though. It really depends what you want to hunt with and what kind of a challange you want. I have taken out a moose with the fist bow you get with the first arrows with 100% quick kill bonus. It can be done. If you are asking for what weapon is the "easiest" to kill a moose with then IMO the .338 rifle is your weapon of choice as you can kill a moose with 100% quick kill and 100% integraty from 300 meters away.

If you want a chalange then try the different bows with the original green arrows (sorry I forgot the name of them) great fun. Happy hunting

I have to disagree slightly, there are wrong weapons to use on a moose. Sure, you can get 100% integrity bonus on a moose with any weapon in the game, but you will not score 100% quick kill bonus on a moose with a calibre that is too small no matter where you hit it. Rounds that lack penetration will not penetrate far enough into the lungs of some larger animals. Other places that can be shot that do not require much penetration that should be an instant kill like the back of the head in the brain or a spine or neck shot are not necessarily instant kills with an underpowered calibre either. It sounds strange, but it's true.

Take a look at this example from a 30-30 on a Bison. I came very close to scoring maximum points, but even with a perfect shot that would be an instant kill with almost all other calibres, he took a few seconds to drop and so I missed out on the 100% for quick kill bonus.

it's the same story with the .243 on the Bison as well.

Your options to score maximum on a moose would be .338, slugshot, the heaviest arrows from preferably the hawk edge bow that has more lbs draw weight, or the 454. You can also use some smaller calibres or lighter bows and still get maximum points if you aim for the vitals. The 7mm is quite reliable against moose for example. Like I mentioned above with the 30-30 on the bison, there is a limit though to how small of a calibre you can use before you lose points on your harvest even with a perfect vital hit.

I wouldn't recommend any calibre smaller than the 45-70 or .270 for any of the higher tier animals like Moose, Bison and elk.

Hey there @Shifty

I have to say that I am sorry and you would be correct. I can recall many times where I have shot a moose in the spine and it has gone on to be a 80% quick kill. I do agree with you

However I have managed to shoot a moose in the heart with the first handgun (being the weakest gun I THINK) and got a 100% quick kill on it even though it appeared to run about 2 meters. So I think you are in fact right and yes you may be ABLE to get 100% quick kill with all weapons but in a lot of cases it would be down to chance and not skill.

I would replicate and screenshot the result of using the first pistol on a moose but it would be FAR easier to just agree with you and not try to defend such a silly claim. Happy hunting to you.

Yes I think at the right angle and distance, it could be possible to penetrate far enough. It would require a direction that gives the smallest distance through the flesh to the vitals at very close range. I haven't seen it happen before though. Or perhaps you killed it fast from multiple shots and got 100% quick kill (and thus didn't get 100% integrity bonus)?

When it did happen it was on a trivial female moose from about 7 meters. This is me recalling it though and it happened a while ago. Still the point stays that your comment is very valid and I overexagerated a bit. Not ALL weapons are good for killing a moose, All weapons "CAN" (word used loosely) kill a moose but I would say in rifle terms, the 7mm and up is the guns you want to be using. :D
