.45-70 is essentially the same as the .270 but for close range ( at it's most powerful below 50m range). Both the 45-70 and .270 are the best calibres for whitetail and wild boar, but neither of those are the best option for hunting anything else other than whitetail and wild boar. The 7mm is the best rifle calibre for taking down black bears and red deer and has very long range capabilities.

So comparing the 45-70 and the 7mm is like comparing apples and oranges, they are for completely different species and different ranges. The 45-70 has very good iron sights, which is what you would expect of a close range weapon. The 7mm, although can be equipped without a scope, the iron sight post really sucks and obscures the view.

Below I have listed each calibre and the species that they are ''the best rifle'' for, take into consideration that it is still possible to score maximum points with a calibre on larger game than I have outlined below if your aiming skills are exceptional:

.223 - Red fox (long range) (+small game like rabbits and squirrels are to be harvestable in the near future)

30-30 - Roe deer, fallow deer, blacktail deer, coyote (close range)
.243 - roe deer, fallow deer, blacktail deer, coyote (long range)

45-70 - white tail deer, wild boar (close range)
.270 - whitetail deer, wild boar (long range)

7mm - black bear, red deer (long range)

.338 - roosevelt elk, moose, european bison (long range)

To answer your question, the best rifle in the game currently in my personal opinion would be the 30-30 or the .243 depending on the range you want to engage the target at. As you can see with the information above, the 30-30 and .243 excel at a wide range of species (roe deer, fallow deer, coyote and blacktail deer) and don't forget, just like any other calibres, they can still be effective on larger game than I have recommended here if you accurately aim for the vitals at a suitable range where you can still get penetration.

The 30-30 round does a little more damage and penetration at close range compared to the .243 round, but If you don't equip a scope on the .243, then you have a great close range iron sighted weapon with long range capabilities but slightly inferior stopping power at close range compared to the 30-30. The variable effective range of the .243 by taking off or adding a scope makes it more versatile, but I prefer close range hunting so I prefer the 30-30 over the .243 with the extra stat bonuses at close range that it has, plus the iron sights are awesome and the rifle just looks great which is a bonus.

The ''best'' rifle depends on your taget species and your prefered range. But if I were to pick the ''best'' overall rifle, for the wide range of species that they are useful on, and also the cheapness of the ammo in the store. The .243 and 30-30 are hands down the ''best'' rifles overall in the game at the moment. If you want close range, it's the 30-30. Long range, go with the .243. I hope this was helpful so that you don't waste money on a rifle that is not a suitable choice for your needs.

Happy hunting.
