Eckers 30-06 has 4,5kg. So M1 has 1 kg less. Somewhere they have to balance this out. Eckers has also a huge recoil. On paper Eckers will be outclassed by M1, if M1 has equal recoil or equal long range accuracy.
Actually Eckers is my main gun and i love it, but if M1 has no disadvantages compared to Eckers, i would be a idiot, if i do not switch to M1.
1kg weight is a huge difference in the loadout without perk or backpack.
Why would you be an idiot? The game is not about using the easiest gun, its about hunting, and with the new scoring system, hunting with whatever gun you want. The reason that a muzzleloader is coming is because peopl WANT to hunt with it, not because it is better than other guns, which it is objectively not.
Even if the m1 and the eckers have the exact same recoil and accuracy, people would still hunt with eckers if they WANT to. Balancing really should not happen in this game, rather reflect reality. After you reach level 40., the game really stops being about shooting everything in sight, which will mess up your need zones, but rather about getting good animals, so a semi auto really won't help that much, as a good shot will take the animal down and most guns already in the game have a quick enough follow up shot/
Just a pragmatic reason, 1 kg is a lot. 2 Callers, 1 small handgun or it can be the missing 1kg for taking a tent with you.
I really like Eckers and M1. But with same gun/ammo stats it's just a thing of skin selection.
Personally i would go the pragmatic way, because i don't take much notice of the gun model. Perhaps once or twice a day, the rest of the game time i have my eyes on the terrain or i see through a scope. I have no RL hunting relation, so there is no direct binding.
4 vs 5 rounds & 1 kg less weight is a lot together. A fat shooting sound (Eckers) vs. the legendary "ping".
It feels wrong to pay 4€ to get a better Eckers (who imo is the better 7mm from standard game). Feels like cheating. Stupid, but it's the best, i can describe this.
The devs actually tried to fill gaps with weapon packs and equipment items.
I really hope M1 will have some cons to Eckers, so Eckers and M1 will not compete directly and M1 will be a alternative for a slightly different playstyle.
- Like drilling who can handle all classes, but is heavy, hard to handle and can be a real diva 200m+. It also has the disadvantage to start from 5-9 and so will be out for standard deers of c4. 16ga cannot handle class 8.
- Or the laser bow scope with it's self adjusting aim point with the con of 2kg weight.
- Or the nightvision items who are hard to use at daylight, rain or fog and without the option to deactivate nightvision mode.
- The 20ga duck DLC shotgun has 3 rounds, is 0,5kg lighter but can only handle class 1-7, so no moose/ elk like the standard 12ga.
I think the devs were smart with the item selection and their balancing of pros/cons in the past.
semi automatics are used for hunting, so makes sense that they belong in a hunting game, period
if you dont like them, stick with a bolt action or what ever you prefer, its that simple.
this is a non competitive game, what others do will not change it for you at all.
you can see the actual recoil on ZaggiDK's channel for example
well stated, you dont really notice it or you can learn to control it if you spend some time on the shooting range and practice negating the recoil. Havent died from a wolf attack in a little bit now thanks to the M1. Plus its long range compatibility is insane. Nailed an Ibex with it at 400 meters. Its an all round great long, medium and short range rifle. Well done on the devs part in my opinion.
