Its just random luck.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Find a high spot with good oversight and go prone and wait. The lions tend to patrol around the waterhole.
When you find sign, back off and set up an ambush. 50% of the time they will come back past the same place.
Shot 6 in one hunt at the double lakes doing this.
if there are lions about stay out in the open. Scan the tree lines with the binos, (or the camera on full magnification), looking for resting lions.
Watch the other animals, if they suddenly spook for no apparent reason it could be a lion nearby.
Dont go into the trees after them. Thats a death sentence. They attack too fast, unless you already have a weapon in your hands you will be lion poo for sure. Most time even with your weapon at the ready you will still be too slow.
Don't know why but it is rare that I hear an animal in Savanna sound off with a warning when a lion is around. Quite different behavior compared to PF where nearly any animal will warn of a Puma being around. Even ducks take wing.
The lions are particular active around lakes at dusk and down.
The best sport I found is the lake south west (fever tree area).
Another good rule is to look around the herds of wildebeest - the seem favorite on the menu of the lion.
