don't buy parque fernando
While Parque Fernando at times offers a lot of fun culling herds of deer or buffalo, it far too often offers absolutely nothing.

As an example, I just walked 3.5km, taking most of a game day to do so, and in that time I saw two animals (and fired one bullet).

The path I took: https://imgur.com/a/KZygD5e

I was following the wind only for the brief detour south at the bottom to cross the bridge and unlock that point of interest, the rest of the time the wind was in my face. I was moving so slowly it's taken ten game hours to walk that distance and so quietly that one of the two animals I saw was a difficulty 7 puma that didn't even see me, and the other was a difficulty 9 legendary puma that I got a 947 score shot on.

Basically the map has 'go here for herd of buffalo', 'go here for herd of deer', 'skip the rest' but with no way of telling where the rest is, it's a waste of time. So my recommendation is to skip this piece of DLC.

Forgot to mention: In that whole time I heard just two animals (both from a distance) and saw the tracks of only 5-6, including a water buffalo track across the top of a ridge.

Despite the Rock Paper Shotgun article this week suggesting otherwise this isn't meant to be a walking simulator, it's a hunting game. That means having animals in it to hunt.

Yes, I'm feeling grumpy. Justifiably so.

Already did and love it.

For me this is the most boring map beside Africa. In contrast Hirschfelden is a apparentness.

I'm happy for you. That's not sarcasm, it's good that someone's enjoying it.

Me, I've crawled another 1.5km, and, as you see from the map, shot and killed every animal I've seen on the journey.

When I say 'seen' I'm including seeing the tracks or hearing the animal. Yep, it's been carnage.

Wow, nothing around Junto Al Lago? Always tons of Mule Deer, Water Buffalo, and some puma there. Try to verify the integrity of your files in Steam. A lot times that gets things goin. Go you your library, right click the game, and you’ll find it under Properties I believe.
Should that fail, check out the pinned threads on how to reset your animal population. I know, shouldn’t have to do all that, I get it. But it doesn’t hurt to try.

I was trying to avoid having to do that, it feels like cheating. I did try nipping into Vurhonga, took me five minutes to find/kill a Cape Buffalo and that shot spooked a herd of Wildebeest the other side of a ridge from me. I made my way along the ridge line and took out their Gold daddy.

Back to Junto Al Lago and another 300m to a new hide and still no tracks. I'm meant to be spotting three different species in this region for a mission, in over 4 RL hours in the zone I've spotted one single animal.

When PF was new, everything was allright, but since the last Patch ...?
I was yesterday walking around, several spots, saw only little tracks, heard 3 animals, 2 of them buffalos, sow not a single animal.
This was not so when i played the story through. Pls fix this like it was before

So I deleted animal_population and the game restored it from the online Steam sync.
Instead I zeroed it but left it in place and a new one was created, my hunting pressure disappeared and I went for a run.

In Junto Al Lago I ran from one lodge via the three hides to the north to the other lodge. In that time I heard no animals, saw no animals, found no animal tracks.

I'm giving up, going to play a game written by a dev team that doesn't hate its customers.

Yeah, this is very much the same experience for me with PF. I've gotten so far through the main mission, but I just don't enjoy very much about this map. The archery range was okay, I guess.

I totally love PF, i have no problem finding game.

You can buy it. No problem. Is a nice hunting reserve. Some areas are a bit empty and some things feel a bit unfinished- so I would agree on buying the Taiga and Savannah first if it is a matter of priorities.

"a bit empty" when a quarter of the map is entirely bereft of animals - in a hunting game?!

This map is simply very bad designed. Why EW build a huge map, if animals are only in a very small part of the map present? The north looks beautiful, but I never found a track or a call. And hunt always only in the same small parts is just boring and frustrating. I can't understand the positive reviews, sorry. How beautiful in contrast is Hirschfelden ,which was made with much more love.

Sorry for my english :-(

While I think a bit of this thread is somewhat exaggerated, in principle I agree that huge parts of of the map are just plain empty. The north-west (left) corner is completely empty. I have walked around there for hours (IRL) looking for anything -- tracks, teal feathers -- and have never seen or heard a thing. I've tried several times of day, different play sessions, etc, but never have found evidence of animal life there. I have even driven the ATV in a sort of grid pattern looking for tracks from fleeing animals, and there was nothing. It's a good quarter of the map, completely empty. I have no idea why they bothered putting an outpost there; it is useless.

That being said, the other parts of the map I love, but there really ought to be some life in all parts.

I followed your path as close as I could possibly do and I ended up killing 40+ animals, a lot of patience and a lot of stalking, crawling and not running or walking so loud so I could be heard.
