As realistic as DH2005?
Do the deer have randomized antlers for thousands of combos and a realistic scoring (antler scoring card) as Deer Hunter 2005? Are there any unrealistic things like computers or similar that tell you where animals are? I loved DH2005 because it was one of very few that was as realistic as possible and still fun as hell. Animal behavior was realistic as in sleeping during the heat of the day, bulls fighting each other when females was around (rare), deer going up on their rear legs to grab leaves from a tree (really rare to see). The graphics looks so nice in The Hunter but i fear its more arcady and not realistic other than how it looks? BTW is bow hunting a bit realistic in the way it feels and works? Thanks!

Well, I think The hunter COTW is the most realistic hunting game currently on the market. It is a bit arcade but in my humble opinion it's quite realistic enough to be fun. Plus they release a lot of updates so who knows what it will be like in the future, it's still a work in progress.
But its not realistic. This is what we have understood. If its arcade then its not realistic. Arcade means the opposite of simulation. I drive racing simulators and rFactor2 is the one closest simulated to real life. There are others that look better but its what is being simulated that matters. If you see deer poop on the ground and its flashing in color so you can see it better - not realistic. If you have PDA's that shows you where animals are in real time - not realistic. If the weapons arent simulating weapon physics with bullet drop and spread - not realistic. If animals dont have the key behaviors as in real life - not realistic. I could go on. Just adding amazing graphics is only how it "looks" but if everything is arcade in that good looking game then its not realistic at all. Like arcade racing games VS racing simulators. There is a huge difference in gameplay but the arcade games usually look much more realistic but the cars are super easy to drive. 6 year olds can drive them while in the simulators you need to know how to use clutch, shifter, heel&toe shifting, throttle management/brake management, how to take apex, corner exit, how to setup a car properly and understand camber, toe in/out, PSI tire pressure, height, gearing, wheel lock, radiator setting etc etc etc. In arcade racing you just choose car and off you go. I LOVE simulation and i am tired of arcade games. Im a bit older so its probably why. :) I love realism, challenge, detail and depth. Flashy graphics does nothing for me unless the game itself is really good. Im not fooled by good graphics. It wont help me enjoy the game if the game is shallow, too simple and too easy.

I'm not assuming you are wrong, but we can at least disable those in the options, I disable them personally.

AFAIK by testing in target range I can tell there is bullet drop, but I don't think wind direction affects it.

This is one of the things that's lacking, animals don't do much and show unique behaviors.

I'll add my personal opinion here about graphics, I think graphics too play a significant role in realism, but yeah if the mechanics are arcade then it doesn't matter too much.

I have mixed feelings about COTW, it has a big potential to become the next DH2005 but only if devs can fix issues and keep things realistic, those who prefer arcade play style can always choose to play like that and enable those features, other than that it won't satisfy a lot of people who are looking for a realistic hunting game.

Artaxeus .
I already use the v1.2 patch, tried different compatibility modes and running as administrator, but still once I change video settings the game hangs up, tried this with different PCs with no luck.

Interesting. Never had that problem until tonight. I was able to go down but when I tried to go back up to my original setting the game crashed. Now Im stuck on 1024 X 768.
LOL
Not to worry. I still have it on my other computer at the higher resolution.

That sucks, I searched further and there is a widescreen trainer where it lets you change the resolution but all links are dead to download.

It would be a good idea if you backup the game you have on the other PC and put it in a .zip/.rar file to preserve it, so you can copy/paste it to your other PC and play it.

Even better, I have all my games on removable drives on both computers. I can just swap the removable drive.
Im suspicious that M.S. may have changed something in the last win 10 build, that has caused this problem.

If anyone wants to discuss DH2005, needs help with the editor, wants maps or patches, feel free to contact me from my profile or friend me.I have many resources stored on Google drive.
We Might be looked upon with some distaste for discussing another game on this forum.
LOL.

Maybe you have some of my old maps i did. :) Cant even remember what i named them tho... I think i added basically "X Island" on them like "Roe Island" etc. I did one called "Monster Island" i think. They were good though. Very detailed and natural looking. I would say they looked better than 90% of the maps that was made by island makers. I used to do graphic design and making maps for many other games so it came naturally. :) Wish i could find them all again...

Alex....you know what, I totally remember you from those days. You were good friends with another close friend of mine, by the name of Moon. Ring a bell? I remember your maps fondly, the work you put in, and if I am not mistaken you also had a line of reticles you created under the name "zubutix" or something? You also made an Axis Deer map for me, and it actually went on to become one of the better Axis maps available. Does "BNB's Axis Island" ring a bell? And if it does, that should clue you in to who I am if you remember :-)

Mule Deer Slaughter Island?

I was librarian and map tester for hagadoo.com. I was also an avid DH2005 map maker.
Unfortunately hagadoo.com is no longer and all the maps and models we collected over the years have dissapeared into the great void.

However there is still a great rescource of old maps here.

Hey chuck, fortunately I dont remember you, Im getting the disease old people get, (cant remember what its called.) and if I did I would have to get into a serious session with my old friend Jim Beam, to help me forget. LOL.

I think Slaughter Island was made by someone else. The name "Cowboy" rings a bell... Might not have been him though. My Roe Island i spent most time on. Too bad they are all gone. They were on a harddrive a decade ago... They are out there though so maybe one day i'll stumble upon someone with a massive library of all those old maps. :)

Got a PM with someone finding a website with tons of DH2005 maps and i found at least 1 map i made "Musko Island". :) Should be a really nice one IIRC. Also one called Roe Island there which could be mine but i know someone else made a map with the same name, so might not be mine. Chupa Island was also on there, lol. I think it was my first map i played and got hooked. :D

Yeah it does look very old by now, sadly.

The "consecutive harvest" b******* keeps the game from being realistic, unfortunately. If you're used to DH2005 the "consecutive harvest" "feature" will drive you insane.
