OK, WHERE are the Lions?
I didn't find any. I presume they are in Africa, right? Don't laugh, when they added Canadian Geese I naturally went to the North American Pacific Northwest map. Made sense to me!

I'm sure I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time, but if anyone happens to know where there might be a spawn point, it would save a guy some time.

I've found them mainly in the Central Savannah and around water sources.

In the southeast quarter of the map there are two lakes that are right next to each other. I've seen (and been killed by) lions every time I've been there.

Thanks guys, I'll go check it out and see if my luck is any better. And yes, I am glad they decided to make the lions territorial and appropriately aggressive. I can only imagine what it would be like to hunt IRL in Africa, but I am sure that one has to be very cautious and aware that they are not at the top of the pecking order in that domain.

Well, happy to say I did find one. But unfortunately the 7MM rifle didn't drop it.... or even motivate it to run away. As it was running towards, as I tried to fire another shot it looked like the animal was jumping and jittering like when you play a multiplayer game with someone that has lag. Caused me to miss, and it ran up and killed me.

They probably just didn't want to make the mistake of making them as common as bacteria like they did with Pumas on Parque Fernando for a while lol

Personally I use the 338 (mid-to-long range) or 45-70 (short range) on them and it drops them instantly.

The .338 will give you dbl lung hits when the 7mm won't. Really no need for the 7mm since the .338 also gives 100% integrity for Lions, Gemsbok and Capes.

Thanks for the tips. A long time ago I had tried the .338 and didn't find it better than the 7mm because it was lacking accuracy. I gave it another go last night, but while tracking her she tracked me more effectively. Hunting these are not easy -- and I don't think it should be. I'm guessing that hunting from a stand might be best in these areas.

Ok, gave the .338 another try and also carried the 470. I ended up getting three, 2 males and one female, and never had to use the 470.

I was able to get into the area of those two lakes in the SE section without getting killed, then hunted long distance. Off in the distance I could see a big male, so I used the .338 with the scope. The first shot didn't drop him, but I pursued and got another shot which took him down.

Then another was sighted a short while later, and I took him down with one shot from about 150m. I'd say the .338 has been improved since I last tried and disliked it. I found it to be very inaccurate. Perhaps one of the patches has addressed that.

The last one, the female, was detected coming up from behind about 100m out, but she hadn't seen me yet. Dropped with one shot as well.

There were no further sightings, but I did hunt away from that two lake area.

In the attempts to hunt that lake area where I got killed, all the times I got killed was because the 7MM wasn't enough to drop them, and then they charged. The .338 is the weapon for these guys. I am sure the 470 would be even better, but no scope on the 470 and even though it isn't real, I try to play real and I doubt there are many hunters that would go in to hunt lions and purposefully look for a close fight.

Also, the way I was hunting before -- which lead to deaths -- was to hunt in the dense tree/grass/bush. These 3 successful hunts were more out in the plains and opened up areas.

After looking at a few IRL sites that explain what to expect when lion hunting IRL, I'd have to say the devs nailed this. It was the most excitement I have gotten from this game ever.

You want a thrill, try hunting in the tall grass by the lakes along the shores. OMG, I shake while walking in the grass. No scope, just in case. Then BABAM!! Dead

I find them stalking herds often, they'll spook the herd and ruin some nice shots for you if you don't take the lion out first.
