Let’s Talk Adding Endangered Species.
Let’s have a civilized peaceful discussion about the touchy subject surrounding endangered species in video games. Keep it civil lol.

I get that some people might be against adding endangered species to the game. I’m all for preserving wildlife 100%, but I also understand that pixels are pixels, and hunting animals in game isn’t hurting a species population on any level.

EW had zero issues adding many extinct species to their previous game entitled TheHunter Primal, so does this mean that if any of the species currently on the endangered species list were to ever go extinct, those species would become fair game? (added without issue?)

Let's not. Stop asking for something you know in advance you are not going to get.

I might have a little more faith in people then you do. You comment alone is the first attempt to derail this topic. Civil and peaceful, worth a shot.

yea, I'm getting pretty tired of this troll. Well put.
Please clarify? Tired of what exactly? You are making zero sense. What exactly are you tired of? It sounds like your referring to something I’ve posted prior.

Another topic about endangered animals... will they ever end? Can't people join any of the previous ones? Or is this an ego thing where they only feel elated when the conversation is happening in their thread?

Honestly I at this point I wish the moderators were more strict and just deleted or merged these threads for good. Complaints be damned.

I actually like the idea of having animals out there that you are NOT supposed to hunt. Makes game indentification more important. By the same token and also to add a new firearm. Since you are a park warden pretty much how about some scenarios where you use a tranquilizer gun to sedate an animal that you have to tag with a radio caller or something similar?

If you're talking about putting stuff like Elephants and Rhinos in the game, i would still say no thank you. Pixels are pixels but i don't believe these animals fall within fair chase practice as they are large lumbering creatures that have very little fear of people and often times don't even bother running. There's a fine line between hunting within moral and ethical practice and simply thrill shooting. I think that's where the divide comes from, and it's just a divide within the people who play this game, its a divide that exists within the real hunting community as well which is why you may not end up seeing them in game.

I only have the base game, and during the last few sales I didn't buy any of the DLC. None of the animals on the other reserves really put me over that excitement tipping point, since they seemed too similar to those I already had access to. It was only a short while after I posted this in a similar thread that I was as surprised as everyone else to see lions in the game. For what it's worth, I will be purchasing Vurhonga solely on that basis, and I'm betting I'm not alone in that.

I'm not sure if all the similar animals could be called reused assets, because there must be more work to it than that, but in any case I think it's a great strategy. Since they've gone through the trouble of modeling big cats and their behaviour, I'm guessing leopards would be a logical next step, possibly even cheetahs?

Personally, I'd like to see crocodiles and alligators, because they'd make the shorelines a bit more interesting and even dangerous, and they'd add value to more than one reserve. In terms of hippos, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, etc, I guess it comes down to whether or not potential future Vurhonga-only sales would be worth the effort involved in creating something so dissimilar to what's already in the game, along with new weapons to deal with them. I guess we'll see, but I'd definitely be interested.

I don't think the game should be about running full-tilt through the forest scoring Texas heartshots on fleeing pandas, but I also don't think it should be Strait-laced Joe's Fully Ethical Hunting Experience - brought to you by Folgers. There's a middle ground that's both fun and profitable without being completely tasteless, and I'm glad they've stepped further into it.

Maybe some kind of license system for special species. You can´t shoot them without a license, when attacked and shooting in self defense you can´t harvest.

Lets say you are about to hunt elephant. You will need to buy a license at "Docs Outfitter" online store for about 40.000 bucks. Now you can go and shoot one elephant.

-> there will be no "slaughtering" of endangered species (players are more picky)
-> it´s a possibility to put your money somewhere
-> replayability
-> reference to real life where licenses generate money for rangers and wildlife projects and thus help to protect endangered species

I hope they never do anything like this, myself, unless it's as an option. If I knew I'd be forced to shoot the equivalent of 40+ deer every time I wanted to shoot a lion, I wouldn't buy the DLC. It also kind of re-frames shooting regular animals as a chore instead of as something inherently fun. Delayed gratification is important, but the game already has that in spades, what with the grind for the guns and the overall gameplay vs shooting gallery games.

It would not make any sense to sell a DLC like this! If you want to establish the mentioned license system you will have to implement it for free. You might want to sell the license for real money but that is obviously not the marketing strategy of COTW (what is good!).

You could earn a license as part of the Hunting Club. Maybe a very rare daily. Or do both. So some people will buy a license with ingame money and other people will just log in and hope for the daily mission.

But no restrictions means "Elephant massacre in Vurhonga lol" videos on youtube.
