Does tent disturb animals when set too close to an need zone (within 100m)
Does tent disturb animals when set too close to an need zone (within 100m)?

What is a good distance to set a tent?

Thanks

Dont think it disturbs them unless you are inside the tent, you cant really use it as a blind.
I have the tent set up 50 meters from my goose hunting blind and none of them really paid any attention to it as long I was nicely tucked away inside the blind and not in the tent.

Tents by themselves do not bother animals. Fast traveling into a tent will disturb nearby animals significantly. Fast traveling to a tent makes more noise than running. For this reason I avoid placing tents near stands, blinds and need zones. How far away is it safe to put a tent from a need zone? Depends upon the vegetation, terrain and the species/difficulty level of the animal.
I usually place a tent between 80-100 meters away from previously selected shooting positions. Sometimes it's 150 meters in more open country.

A tent offers no concealment benefit. None. It's not the same as a blind.

However, I often set tents within 30m of my stands or tripods when setting up ambush scenarios around need zones. Go do whatever fancies me, then fast travel back to the tent during a time when the zone is not active. I then rest there until 10 minutes before my need zone time period, get into my stand, and wait. Works quite well under most circumstances.

In Layton Lakes, I set tents often directly below lookout posts.

Experiment with tent placement. You can avoid spooking animals by fast traveling to a tent ahead of time or you can simply place it wherever you want, fast travel to it and then move to the need zone and wait to see if anything you spooked returns. I've plopped a tent down 20 meters from a hunting stand and been successful. I've also placed them 80-90 meters away and been successful. If I've found tracks of a max weight range animal or seen one with a max level TR range in the area I tend to be cautious and consider distance to be more important. IMO any calm animal less than 100 meters from a tent I just fast traveled to has been spooked to some degree and most calm animals 150 meters or more away from the tent either could care less about the noise or are only mildly annoyed. Nervous animals tend to be more skittish.

Thank you guys for the tips. Once I put the tent around 150m away, the animals are back at the need zone. :cozyspaceengineersc:
