Calburn Canyon
Why is this place such a desert? My map is littered with need zones and then you enter Calburn and it’s four moose and 20 herds of Jackrabbits.

Once upon a time, before the time of the savanna map, this place was infested with elk, moose, deer, bear, and even hunters. Then came the patch and all deserted this land of bounty.
My goodness, there’s nothing there. I’ve walked around and found maybe a roaming coyote track. The rest is a bird sanctuary. Shame really, a beautiful place I’ll not visit much.

Your correct. I used to only hunt that area and it was full of bear coyotes and elk. Now I’ll hunt at different times and find absolutely nothing in an hour RT. Shame, it was my go too
Ditto that. I am STILL trying to complete the mission where you harvest two elk from stands in Calburn Canyon, and haven't seen hide nor hair of one in at least 100 hours in game attempting to. I've ruthlessly harvested elk from every other area of the map to almost the entire exclusion of every other critter in the hope that they would migrate to the Canyon, but not so much as a track. So sick of hearing the elk caller to no avail.

This for me was after the 'duck fix' at layton when all my need zones disappeared off the mapS and the game became ugly . I stupidly bought the Patagonia map FOR the missions (lotsa luck) which promptly broke (duck decoys) and SIDE missions that promptly broke (Circles) .
I haven't been back since then but hey, I got about 4 hours of play out of that new map, my bad.

Can the devs PLEASE bring back the elk, coyote and bear to this area. It is null of any animal life.

Unfortunately, I think they are unaware unless a support ticket is submitted.

Still, latest update on PS4 1.37 and this area is deserted.
I have seen and heard only 1 coyote after travelling there for 1 km. WTF? Get there trying to do Connors #7.

Do devs needs more tickets to open?

Went to the Caliburn outpost and scouted up to Gustafson's Shack then headed up north. I saw no tracks and heard no calls. I went back to the outpost and headed south. Lot of tracks, spotted 6 or so coyotes (bagged a gold) and quite a few white-tail tracks (bagged a silver) and 1 lone set of moose tracks. I didn't scout the left side of the river; just the side where the outpost is.

you must remember that population in any area is dependent on two things, among others, but 2 primarily, first whatever spawns are programmed to occur naturally in that area around the players 450 meter playing zone, and secondly, whatever specific zones are unlocked in that area for a specific species to spawn in (instead) of where it would have naturally spawned.

You say your map is loaded with need zones, but are any of them in the Calborn Canyon..

When a player starts a game, new or restarting a continued saved game, the first thing the game engine does is acknowledge your GPS, then it divides the population cap up between random natural spawns within your location, and spawns into whatever zones you have unlocked in that area, (which are still enabled that is, just because a zone shows on your map does not mean that it has not been disabled by your interaction in some way).

So if you have not unlocked any zones in calborne, then your only chance to see animals is when you come across whatever might be programmed to spawn there naturally. And because the population cap is spread out over a large map environment, finding those animals that the game engine might have spawned near to your GPS, is going to also be restricted to the natural spawning system AI, how you intrude upon that with your own presence, how you alter those natural routines and pathways by your presence. So if you are already in an area that has a low spawning programming, even if you crawl all day without making a sound, you are going to be very lonely, usually...sometimes guys just luck out but normally the environment in single player depends a great deal on what you create in that playing space yourself.

Niow multiplayer is completely different altogether with regards to how the game engine spawns the critters.

And for whatever reasons there has been many changes in the game environment over the last year, and many veteran players are well aware that the devs altered the population in the calborn area and actually in the whole northern sector.

But as I said, the pop cap is spread out over the map, so to inroduce or rearrange spawning will mean robbing from peter to pay paul..

if you want animals there you should make the effort to lure them there and then establish a few zones so they will start spawning there whenever you restart or harvest.

for eaxmple, on the west side of the canyon there is a place where that small inlet empties. There are moose deer and elk to be found in that area and there is also a crossing point there which you can use to lure critters across to the other side and begin to spawn at zones that you unlock in various places, but be aware that if you should delete those zones, they revert to their natural programs and those positions will return to being barren.

It was my favorite spot...
Yeah, it used to be flush with life.

used to be able to go that shack on the east side of the river and hunt moose and elk all through those fields, alot of bear too. it was one of my favorite moose hunting spots where i would start at the hunting stand in that hill to the east right off the road leading down toward the lookout from the OP. That stand was great for moose, elk deer, bear, had it all,,,and a great view, then i would hike down through the field toward the river and hunt all along the east side back up toward where the road crossed.. somewhere along the way things changed real bad and it got barren as hell. even before the population reset, waaaay back even before the yukon and stands came out, maybe even the lions,,i really do miss that spot...but recently they did make some more changes there and you can find a few animals there and can lure them into the area from that spot where that inlet goes up into the west side...... but i really dont go there much anymore..much better hunting in other places ,,

Got to looking at the map again. Most all the action mention previously was west & northwest of the outpost where the bridge across is. Went to the outpost today & ran the base of the mountains up the canyon to the lookout tower. Crossed over to the river edge & went back down to the bridge. I found a lone coyote & a mallard feeding area is all.

Therefore I found about 100!!! (in words one hundred) animals around the two little lakes a bit left from the Word NORDEN on the map.
Mouse over one of the two little lake shows "Mines of Norden" or something like that
It seems that all animals from Calburn are gathered together in that aera.

Do NOT ask, what happens to your XBOX/PS/PC, if you walk up to the near of that two little lakes even if you don't see any animal!!! :steamsad:
My XBOX One X goes into freeze frame mode. Horrible!! 100 animals at one place! :steamfacepalm:

How could they!
