Buffalo rifle
Im not as good at this as others on here seem to be . But I've worked since the dlc came out to get money for the 470??(think it's called) . Not. About 15k off im starting to wonder if it's worth it . For someone on a budget and unlikely to get that much cash again before wasting it would I be better off keeping the cash for any guns etc further down the line . Or is it worth it for the buffalo/bison I intent to use it on

Get the 270 and 7mm first. The 7mm is very good for bison (haven't tried it yet on buffalo) and does average against moose and brown bears (338 is enough for those two). Then I would still get the good shotgun, bow and maybe the Rhino handgun if you are into those hunting styles (or want to progress the story missions).
For only being usable on bison and buffalo, the 470 is either pure luxury or just for dedicated buffalo hunting, in case the 7mm and 338 don't work on them as good as they do on bison.

The .470 just isn't a very good weapon for the price. It's only ethical for European bison and capes and it's performance against the capes is erratic. I've had broadside shots at ten feet which failed to penetrate the skin. European bison will drop like a stone under the .470 but that's a lot of cash just to hunt one species. With the capes I've had better success with the 454.

If you are stretched on cash then better buy other guns. The 470 is expensive in both ammo and purchase and only serves well on two species. When I can get within 30m I prefer using 600g arrows or bolts, and the gun is only rely reliable at up to 100m due to the lack of a scope. The 338 can also take down a bison or buffalo reliably and is way cheaper. Also works on other species like moose, brown bear and elk.

The rifle I use most is the .338. Like many others, I've found the .470 to be very inconsistant and not a reliable weapon sadly.

You can stretch the 600gr arrow out to about 40m using the Hawk Edge bow and level 2 of pumping iron and still get pretty good penetration. My 40m shot went humerus, scapula, lung, stomach & intestine. The 44.4m shot only hit a lung so I'm still tinkering with the range.

Same here. Level 7 from 140yrds with 338, 60% quick kill. 15 yrds 470, flesh wound. Same area hit, behind front leg broadside. Go figure.

You can get quick cash from single player missions. It can be boring for some but I enjoy them and got 7000$ in short time just going from place to another.
I have the 470 and it feels unnecessary.

The 470 is great for cape buffalo if you can hit the spine, just drops them. As for moose, bison, elk, wildebeest & red deer the 7mm is your friend. You really don't need the 338. Everything else i shoot with the 243 & 223 for the fox to keep integrity. I drop 95% of what i shoot.

ps: i usually get within 75m of my target, and quite often a lot closer.
