How to kill Deer in 1 shot?
Been playing with my Dad and every time we shoot a deer, it just falls over and immediately gets up and runs off. Even if it gets shot in the head it just waltz away. Do I need a more powerful gun or is there a certain place I need to aim for?

dont shoot a animal in the head aim for the heart and lung area you dont need a more powerful gun for whitetail or roe deer or blacktail more musk deer the 243 will work but i prefer the 270

So a headshot doesn't kill it? It doesn't make sense lol

it can but it's not the best way

hunters dont go for the head as it damages the trophy. Most rounds can take a deer down with a head shot but smaller rounds the skull can be too thick. The lung/heart shot will bring even a moose down with the .243
happy hunting!

it makes quite a bit of sense a an animal skull is thick thicker than a humans even most hunters go for the vitals cause it offers a quick and humane death with the appropriate caliber

Also a headshot WILL kill the animal if your bullet penetrates the skull and hits the brain . But often you hit other areas of the head. Shooting the animals cheekbone of doesn't kill it and also isn't very "humane" because it will suffer. ;)

The error is in thinking an animal's skull reacts the same to been shot as a human skull does. Animal skulls tend to be thicker, they're also far more sloped in shape, smaller calibre rounds often won't penetrate an animals skull leading to a superficial wound.

A .243 is easily capable of dropping a deer instantly in 1 shot but you need to be aiming for the lungs and spine. Deer have big lungs so it's not hard shot, aim for the chest just behind the front les.
Try your bow I drop so many deer with my bow its unreal sometimes. Sit in a bush and call them in and drop them at point blank range!

If you shoot with your beginning rifle .243, that rifle cant penetrate skull good. If you look at your hits you will see something like

FLESH, SKULL.. so it hit flesh and the skull but didnt penetrate the skull . . So after being dazed for a moment it will run off, Bleeding , and bleed out somewhere far... (or not if bleeding is very low and the beast is big like Moose).

Otherwise you would see
FLESH, SKULL, BRAIN. Is what you want for headshots. But you usually miss the brain and hit a jaw or something

Aim for the spine if you want to instant drop it. Every shot to the SPINE will drop your deer. Aim at the spine area above the LUNGS. If you miss the spine you hit the LUNGS and it probably will bleed out if it runs away.

Just what i found out hunting deer.

Spine, lungs, or heart is the best way. Animal skulls are often built like protective helmets compared to human skulls. Even in real life, pro hunters don't aim for the head usually.

Aim for the outer edge of the front shoulder blade low for heart mid for lungs & possibly heart if you are elevated, or high for spine,/lungs.
A deer "can" run 100yds even if you blow it's heart up! Best way to drop them instantly is a spine shot.

Wow I like it how nobody in this thread seems to have ever hunted or killed an animal in real life. All you need to know is that this is a game and not real life, and as such you guys shouldnt compare the two! In this game the optimal shot is the spine or lungs/heart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cIs9lNh2zU Flinter makes a great video you should check out if you are new. SHOOTING ANIMALS IN THE HEAD IN REAL LIFE KILLS THEM STOP SAYING STUPID ♥♥♥♥ PLEASE. Shooting an animal in the head in real life is much harder and you have a better chance of wounding the animal compared to the "normal" lung shot. For some hunters that are very close to their target and have proper shooting technique will sometimes shoot animals in the head like does and hogs. Its an instant and a painless way to take game, also they drop instantly so you dont have to track.

Nobody said that shooting them in the head can't kill them. But as you said, it is much harder and not really prefered. I've killed an animal with head shots in the game too, but more times than not it is more trouble that it is worth.

Also, plan your shot and after killing and collecting the animal study the x-ray (right mouse button) to see if your placement was good or not.

No it does not, shooting their brains kills them. And in relation to a human most animals have really tiny brains and really strong skull bones.
