[Edit]
Found one other thread here on steam with someone who had it on disc, said he installed it through use of the disk but still had to download around 3GB (at that time) from steam.
I'm guessing the discs just contain the base game, steam downloads the updates and so you'll have less to download than someone who downloads the whole game from steam.
I'm surprised people still bother to buy disc games for PC. Wonder if it is actually still profitable to do so for developers.
Last time I bought a game on disc for the PC was 10+ years ago, if not more.
Edit:
Like @WhiteWolf said, it’s just the base game and all the updates will still have to be downloaded from steam.
When I first got it for her I didn't realize it was on Steam. Later once I did, I checked the prices. Walmart had it for $10 less than Steam did. So i just went and got a second one at walmart. XD
If your system has a DVD drive then you also have a CDROM drive.
Some of the newest ones don't have any optical drives.
some gamers prefer to have physical copies of games rather then digital so they can install it locally especially if they are in a location that has crappy internet
luckily I am not (xfinity here) my other 2 options would have been Dish or Direct TV and both sucks
