No animals whatsoever!
So....I bought this game today. Thought it would be a nice chilled out game. Sneaking around....sitting and waiting for animals to shoot....

I have now been sneaking around in the forest for over 2 hours, and I haven't seen a single animal. Sure.....that's how it's like in real life.....but is it really suppose to be like this in the game?

Can you play it for hours and hours, and don't see a single animal?

sometimes its like that, just as in RL, sounds like you are hunting in Europe, go to your map (M) and then hit (H) that calls up all the areas, go to Layton Lake, there are much more animals there. lots of deer in the southern half. more deer the further south you go.

this.
also, make sure you do not walk downwind and make a lot of noise. check the UI icons right under for feedback about that.
also, check the animal population maps to find where you have the most chance of finding certain animals. you find them in the guides section, they're player made.

if you're aware of how to hunt it doesn't take more than 30 minutes to find something. (in my experience)

so check the guide section, as well as youtube for guides.

I think Im at Layton Lake.....I think that's what I picked in the beginning of the game....I don't know how to tell? Im in Balmont.....around Balmont Railroad Outpost.....still no animals. Well I have heard a couple, but not seen any.....3 hours into the game now. Very realistic.....and very boring.... :-/

Ok....so all the sudden I have spotted 3 moose, and shot all 3 of them.....and all 3 just ran away. Can't you shoot and kill moose with the rifle and ammo you have in the beginning?

If you just started, you have .243 rifle which is too small caliber for a moose, especially since you also have 'soft' bullets. Once you unlock polimer-tip bullets, you might be able to hunt a moose but with precise heart shot only. You really need 7mm rifle for a moose

Go after deers and coyotes with your starting rifle, bunnies are good as well but you will get 0% integrity bonus. Still good for cash, XP and some weapon score to unlock better rifles sooner

Very weird game this.....there is no tutorial.....you have no idea about what to do....what you can do, and what you can't do. As for now, my next mission is to travel to Lake Cheelah.....and how am I suppose to do that? Im looking at the map, and there are no names of any lake or any places etc. And still no other animals accept for the 3 moose's that I couldn't even kill. I want my money back....haha!

I don't have any friends. It's been night time in the game now for over an hour.....I don't know what to do.....no animals anywhere . Maybe nothing will happen until I get to Lake Cheelah.....and I have no idea how to get there.....it doesn't say anything at all on the map :-/ , and the game doesn't tell you how to get there either....

Do you have tips off? Reserve warden provides a lot of useful information. When you spot a moose or its tracks for the first time, it tells you that you need larger caliber to hunt it

Open the map and wait for about 5-7 seconds, it will highlight mission area (might need to zoom out to see it if you are far away). You can then wlk to that area, or use ATV if you have one, but leave it at least 400 meters away from mission area as it spooks animals, continue by foot

have you traveled to the lookout towers? visiting them will show the regions and give you new places to spawn.

I figured out how to zoom out on the map, and finally I found Lake Cheelah. 2,5 km away.....with water and a huge mountain in between....and of course I can't swim, so I had to go around everything.....took me 30-40 minutes to get there....not game minutes, but real minutes. And when i finally got there.....it's morning....and the mission was to shoot a dear at night.....and now the game want's me all the way back to Balmont again.....and not a single animal in sight anywhere. Been playing for over 4 hours now I think.....and all I have seen is a lot of forest....

Do you know you can fast travel between outposts?

still hunting is generally a waste of time.

Unless you know for sure animals are in the area.

Got to get out in the mix and scare them up...
When you hear their warning call... then still hunt using a caller.

Got to be real stealthy to sneak up on them in some cases.
Be sure the wind is not working against you, as they'll smell / hear you coming.

Ok....so I tried another mission.....I am suppose to investigate bears.....I am suppose to find 3 different bear tracks in Balmont. For the last hour I have been going round and round and round in the area of Balmont looking for bear tracks.....and all I can find is moose tracks. Its so weird.....I dont get any hints of how or what I should do in order to find these tracks.....no information what so ever.....so yeah.....I have just been running around for one hour looking for tracks....and found nothing! Really really stupid game.....Im giving up soon....
