ATV scaring animals
So, after screaming to an area I want to hunt, how long does it take before the area settles down and animals return? I suppose one could pitch a tent, quit the game & restart and it'd be like the ATV was never there...?

Hirsch - As an aside and looking at the animal location map posted here, the furthest NW area. It shows Red Deer should be plentiful up there. I'm having trouble finding even one.

I can't give you a time.. but what i'd suggest is:

Take a backpack (if you have it) with a tent in it...Jump on your ATV... drive to new area, place the tent, put the backpack in it.. rest in the tent for 12hrs.

If you dont have a tent... drive the ATV to your destination. Then walk 300m or so from your ATV (away from where you came from) and then you'll start seeing things again...

Do this, but you can run the first 100 after you get off the atv (as the animals are already spooked), walk the next 100, have a good look around and then crouch-walk the last 100 to your chosen spot. Same if you come across tracks you want to follow but can see they have bolted from the atv.
Best thing is to stop several hundred Meters shy of where you want to hunt. While the ATV does not give you any info on how far the sound travels I have heard everything from 200M's to 400M's so I usually take the 200M range and seem OK for the most part then I slowly make my way in to the center of the area I wish to hunt.

Honestly though I rarely use my ATV any more as tents are fast and quieter to get to areas O like to hunt in and can plunk me right down in the center without having to spook anything unless it's right outside the tent which does happen from time to time.

Good advice guys. I don't normally use the ATV but this area's really remote and far away from any outpost. You say a 12hr game-time wait? I suppose the thing to do is pitch a tent then hunt somewhere else until the 12hr mark. TKX!

Don't take the 12 hours as anything... just if you have a tent you might as well rest in it to allow the area to settle. Pick any time over 2 hours I'd suggest..

the animals stop being scared if you stop the ATV. they come back really quickly. it not different from when you scare them by shooting.

what is a issue though is that it's in a 300 meter radius which is really big.

epicpotatoboi is absolutely right. I've often had cases where I was traveling on an ATV to a lookout, etc. but saw some running animals, jumped off, called them, and they came back soon after. And I've also had them come in even if I just saw their tracks. They don't run that far if the ATV is off.
